This week, the @ChurchofUganda_, through the Directorate of Household and Community Transformation (HCT), continued to strengthen its role in humanitarian response and peacebuilding across the region.
At the Africa Regional Emergency Preparedness Workshop organized by @ACTAlliance, the Church was represented by @Jose_Ninsiima, the Emergency Response Focal Person. The workshop brought together national members from Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania to build capacity for effective and timely humanitarian response. This aligns with the Church’s mission of compassionate service, recognizing that local churches are often the first responders, uniquely positioned to reach the most vulnerable in times of crisis. The Church of Uganda’s recent interventions, including support to over 3,000 refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement and assistance to more than 1,000 households affected by the Sebei mudslides (completed in February 2026), stand as a testimony to this commitment.
In a related development, the Church of Uganda also participated in a two-day Women, Peace and Security (WPS) meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, organized by the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) under the Horn of Africa Peace Project. Represented by @HopeAtim123, Program Officer for Gender and Social Justice, the meeting brought together women-led organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, and @IGADsecretariat to strengthen collaboration in advancing the WPS agenda. The engagement culminated in the development of a Call to Action, presented to IGAD’s Peace and Security Department, reaffirming the vital role of faith actors in promoting peace, justice, and inclusion.
