Did you check out our latest podcast? Is an A3 necessary for all improvements? Is Plan, Do, Check, Act, better or worse than Plan, Do, Study, Adjust? Join Mohamed Saleh, Ph.D. and me for a 20 minute (free) discussion on these problem solving topics. lnkd.in/ev4mqJ_4

@kayakendall @tom_peters @MarkCCrowley Same here... When I have helped companies get to the point where everything is running so smoothly, they no longer needed to call for emergency help, the leaders became anxious and shut down all of the improvement efforts for fear of becoming irrelevant.

@JohnDyerPI @tom_peters @MarkCCrowley I agree with you. I encountered that frequently in my career. And I had a couple of bosses that thought nothing of calling me at 11:00 p.m. on a Saturday night or at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. I was expected to be available 24/7. Sad to say, I complied.

According to Edelman’s Trust Barometer, only 21% of employees #trust their #CHRO to tell the truth about what's happening in the organization. Effectively, this means people don't trust the company itself. And without trust, you'll never have #engagement. #LeadFromTheHeart #HR

@kayakendall @tom_peters @MarkCCrowley Your family because everything is running great. I decide to come into work because everything is falling apart. Which one of us will be recognized by our boss in the next staff meeting for going above the norm? What behaviors does this reinforce? This needs to change.

@kayakendall @tom_peters @MarkCCrowley Kay, imagine the following scenario: You oversee a production facility that runs great... no disruptions, employees happy, problems solved quickly with little impact. My plant is disorganized with horrible engagement and numerous problems. A particular Saturday, you spend with...

@tom_peters @MarkCCrowley 2 they begin to realize that if the problems go away, they have no chance to be the Hero & get recognition required for the next promotion. So, they shut it all down and go back to using fear and control. We must, must, must change the promotional criteria. Coaching, Empathy, etc

@MarkCCrowley OneBIG part of the problem. Most promotions are based on technical skills, NOT people skills👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

@tom_peters @MarkCCrowley 1This is a point I bring up frequently in the podcast "Behind the Curtain: Adventures in Continuous Improvement." For the past 150 years, the manager who is the best at putting out fires gets the promotion. When they see the power of employees working as a team, solving problems.

@tom_peters @apexlearn_org Once the majority of companies shift their promotional criteria from control, fear, and fire fighting (manage) to respect, mentoring, and empowerment (Coaching), business schools will change their curriculum out of necessity.

Wouldn’t it be great if business schools and law schools and med schools taught “kindness” and “listening”as the two core values which will lead to a successful career and a successful life; and along the way, make the world just a little bit better.

@tom_peters We discuss this in our podcast "Behind the Curtain; Adventures in Continuous Improvement." Developing a system that allows every worker to achieve pride in what they do and then leaders recognizing the accomplishments creates, what I call in my book, Enthusiastic Productivity

@scottdwitt @tom_peters @Crislycai I just spoke to a group of 200+ business leaders and shared this thought... before AI, get your Culture (respect, empowerment, engagement, pride), Processes (Improvement, Problem Solving), and Leadership (Mentors, Coaches) right. The first to do that and layer AI on top, will win

@tom_peters @Crislycai In our latest "Behind the Curtain: Adventures in Continuous Improvement," podcast episode, I spoke about how the organizations that will win the use of AI, will be those where every employee is engaged, respected, able to solve problems, empowered and part of a winning team.

@Crislycai A quarter of a century ago, the Chinese shifted their education system from memorizing to thinking. We have not made such a shift. In the age of AI, making such a shift is a matter of survival. Or not. Am I exaggerating? Maybe. On the other hand, maybe not.

@tom_peters I will be speaking to a group of 250 next month and 20 Pastors this month with a similar message. I try and introduce myself to each person before and after spending the day with them.

I was a effective public speaker. Biggest “secret”: literally desperate to get my message across. Greatest “weapon“: eye contact. Speaking to 500 people, but my eyes on only one at a time, as I tried with all my heart a & soul to convince them of the importance of my message.
