My 2 favorite changeup grips right now:
Grip #1: Kick Change
Made famous by @LA_Strom and @TreadHQ
This grip allows me to lower the spin direction out of the hand without losing the seam effects I already create. Making it a consistent negative IVB pitch!
For me, I use a 2 seam grip but slide a little further back on the seams. I spike the middle finger enough so it is about the same length as my ring finger.
I found that when I spike it more, I tend to cut the ball too much.
Grip #2: 3-Fingered Split
This one is fun to throw because it doesn’t require much thinking. Good option for higher slot guys.
The key is keeping 3 fingers as close together as possible on the inside of the seam. Curl the index over the other seam. Typically just trying to throw it like a fastball works well.
For both of these and most changeup grips, I have found curling the index finger towards you as opposed to more straight, allows the ball to slip to the other fingers easier, which typically gets the ball to kick more sideways.
Give these a shot and let me know which one works for you!
