Interrupting doesn’t always indicate rudeness. Research shows that many people interrupt due to factors like faster cognitive processing, anxiety, or impulsivity, rather than deliberate disrespect. Those with rapid processing speeds may think of responses before others finish speaking, while anxious individuals may fear forgetting their point if they wait. Impulsive interruptions are also linked to ADHD, where a fast flow of ideas and limited short-term memory make pausing challenging. Often, it’s simply a case of the brain moving faster than the conversation. Sources: Eysenck, M.W. (2012). Anxiety and Cognition; Barkley, R.A. (2015).
