@MitchATreadwell Ahhhh, yes - that makes sense now, a MUCH smaller same result happened down here with the Four Lakes Special Assessment (just Midland and Gladwin). But even continues to deal with oppositional haranguing 😖

@KayGem58 The county boards of each affected county need to agree to the same terms. For the Upper Chain of Lakes (Bellaire Dam) that is Antrim and Charlevoix Counties; for the Elk/Skegmog/Torch Lakes (Elk Rapids Dam) it's Antrim, Kalkaska, and Grand Traverse Counties. It's herding cats.

@evanwch I think the forecasters are saying Steyer will win, but there is a lot of talk among tech people and online posters (where there is a big overlap) that Mahan has a chance. He doesn't, really.

On California's governor race: Post-Swalwell, I think a lot of people are significantly underrating Tom Steyer's chances in online discourse, and significantly overrating Matt Mahan's. Steyer has the airwaves to himself. Mahan has X. What matters? theargumentmag.com/p/another-cali…

The Elk Rapids dam is similarly high. And unfortunately, the Special Assessment Districts intended to fund repairs to both districts still haven't been approved. Hopefully the dams hold!!

@hfufheffbehgbe1 @umichvoter His primary was in Q1 (just last month), that has to be factored in (It will obviously be gynormous, but there should be like zero expectation that it was ever going to NOT be)

@AustinHoney30 I mean yes, Peltola being the one to oppose him obviously helps greatly. Just - if ever there's a race where the incumbent does end up losing despite basically no real fault of their own, this would appear to be it, no?

@AustinHoney30 That's the thing that's wild and a real temperature-taker of the overall environment, because Sullivan has never particularly been a "weak" incumbent - has he?

@admcrlsn OR maybe it's just US-based religion altogether that's gone completely whack-a-doodle 🤔😬 Admittedly I have no dog in the broader Protestantism/Catholicism discourse, but I have also seen over the past week that "Vatican has had major issues with US pastors" entered the chat

@Renee05208714 @admcrlsn Sorry, that wasn't meant to be directed at you - rather at his "pick a lane" (But in response to yours - he makes no bones about polling itself not being an unbiased field)

@AustinHoney30 that all four would each individually* go even relatively close together otherwise

@AustinHoney30 Also LBR all four SHOULD resign BUT the likelihood that all four would go even relatively close together otherwise is like less than zero

@NickyFrank30 5, 7, 8, 15 I am officially average! 🤣 Putting Atlanta (easily the next biggest one) on this list would put me over the hump, though

@NickyFrank30 I would opine that this would describe people who are not progressive, not moderate, instead they're......... Byron White? Completely idiosyncratic. Possessing a belief system that completely defies any conventional categorization that can be attempted to be slapped on them.

They mean different things to different people. For example, I've heard moderates who say they support universal healthcare but only if Republicans support it too. Some want it, but also want strong limits on immigration and want to keep black people out of their neighborhoods.

As @katz_morris explains, DC consultants just literally don't understand what voters mean when they say moderate. Check out the full convo here: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wha…

@clwydwealth @rep_favorite That would help Kyra but not Kimberly. Mainly, it was this: x.com/KayGem58/statu…
KayGem58@KayGem58

@rep_favorite Simple. (Michigander here.) In addition to the "official" nonpartisan listing, the Dem candidates had plenty of $$$ while the Republican ones had basically none of it. This led to: Most you might see day to day is the occasional yard signs for Rs. Ds were on TV. THE END! 🤷‍♂️

@rep_favorite Aren’t they listed as incumbent on the ballots in Michigan? That could explain the massive overperformance in part. Just ppl who vote to retain the incumbent basically
