@KilleyAlex No you can’t. Each district has to contain roughly the same amount of people so it’s a zero-sum game. CD1 looks nice at the expense of the others.

The sooner people realize just how extreme the Salt Lake congressional district is, the sooner Blake Moore’s support will collapse. Only an antidemocratic process could have created those boundaries. I would bet the map wouldn’t exceed 40% approval from the general population.

@warshington_dc Also you can change the map for the rest of state anyway you want and leave UT-1 unchanged. UT-1 doesn’t force either of the things you listed.

@KilleyAlex Should Summit County and St. George be in the same district? I don’t think so. Do you think the way Utah County and is carved up makes sense? I don’t. Reasonable minds are always going to disagree. Just because you like the District 1 boundaries doesn’t make the rest fair.

@warshington_dc It makes the state delegation more proportional to the statewide vote. That’s hard fact and undeniable. It better reflects how all the people in Utah votes.

Gerrymandering is cheating, no matter who does it. It’s also quite unpopular. I’m glad that Prop 4 is the law of the land here in Utah and that it will remain that way.

@DaveMallinak @andyblarsen Or match the statewide vote average to the percentage of seats each party won to the best amount practical. It’s called proportionality. It’s what people use most often to call a map unfair.

@DaveMallinak @andyblarsen Yes but that’s doing deliberately to avoid giving Salt Lake County its own representation when it has enough people for it. That is literally gerrymandering, you’d be manipulating the map to a party’s benefit.

@andyblarsen So we "fixed" gerrymandering with gerrymandering. The new map isn't an example of a non-gerrymandered map. Not when 3 districts cover the state and 1 covers SLC.

The only non-gerrymandered district is a district that accurately reflects the demographics of the state as a whole. This means that every district represents the partisanship of the state and every district would be 51% Republican. According to Independent Voter Project independentvoterproject.org/voter-stats/ut… Utah voter registration is as follows: Republican 51.36% Independent 35.06% Democrat 13.58% Using these numbers Democrats should not have 25% of the seats that are available in the house of representatives. To fully justify our court decreed district 1, Democrat voters would have to account for at least 25% of the registered voters in the state. The district 1 seat is a stolen seat. It exagerates the proper representation of Democrats in the state of Utah.

The Utah GOP being forced to allow its Capitol city, majority tax base, and 40% of its state accurate representation.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Better Boundaries won’t stop at stealing a congressional seat via the judiciary. This was never about fair representation. They want the state of Utah to turn blue. That is their end goal. Remember who did this to our state.

@jbaxter8788 @JacksonForUtah It kept the Salt Lake City metro together in one district to respect municipal boundaries and keep the community together. That’s good redistricting.

Also good to have helped, they lied to my sister (told her it was an anti-gerrymandering prop), who is a resident of the SD that just failed to qualify, I got her to remove her signature
