You do sign under penalty of perjury that you are being truthful but how is that challenged?
In practice there is no verification. just a claim that I am telling the truth.

This is absolutely wild to see our (Republican) LG, fight so hard against making sure only citizens can vote.

FACT: Utah is a vote-by-mail state. Art. IV, Sec. 8 of the Utah Constitution guarantees the right to a secret ballot for federal and state elections.

@SuburbanNoble @VoteTrevorLee I used this method for registration just a few weeks ago. Citizenship is verified by a check box. No proof of citizenship or eligibility was required. I didn't even have to submit a scan of my photo ID.

@Nullimus @VoteTrevorLee Not true. There are requirements to get a state ID or a drivers license. Those documents are the method to verify you can legally register (check the box) to vote. Registration is required to cast a legal ballot.

Is that the tactic? contact someone who is not on the petition, address them by the name of a person who is on the petition, and then ask them if they want help being removed from the petition?
Then print out a form letter and sign it hoping that the signature will be close enough to be a passable match for the signature on the petition?

I got a text message from "Alma" at Better Boundaries. "Hi Loyal" it began.
I was told that my name is still on the "politicians' pro-gerrymandering petition" and offered to help remove my name from it.
Also asked if I got my letter(?).
Except that my name isn't on that petition, and my name isn't Loyal.

A signature-removal blitz could sink the GOP-backed repeal of Utah's anti-gerrymandering law.
SD15 lost 118 more signatures, leaving a 114-signature cushion.
One more day like this and it misses the ballot.

On Monday we were in front of the new GRAMA Director Lonny Pehrson to appeal the LG denial of our request to view Cox’s nomination petitions.
We were denied - again
There is only one conclusion... Deidre Henderson does not want these packets seen - ever
She intends to destroy them before anyone sees them
We have evidence of forgeries, multiple criminal investigations, and obstruction of these documents… but they are still hiding them

You have to verify the signature on a ballot already, thereby also violating the right to secret ballot by this logic.

The SAVE America Act requires a voter to include a photocopy of their ID in the return envelope of a by-mail ballot, violating our Constitutional right to a secret ballot.

This is about verifiability. How can we maintain faith in a system if the system itself undermines verification at every step?
Verification prior to election day makes it possible to have greater confidence in the results of that election. There is not enough time to verify after the fact if things seem off. This was demonstrated in vivid detail after the 2020 election. things just seemed off and there was no time to go back and check.
To make things worse, 6 years later evidence is piling up that things were indeed off in 2020 but there is no remedy, the damage has already been done.
This is why citizenship verification at registration and ID at the polls is so critical. A nation can not survive if the legitimacy of the leaders in our government is in question and we have no means for verifying the results.
