In 1970, two different groups of surgeons from the same Department, unbeknownst to each other, submitted abstracts on the *same* cohort of pancreatic trauma patients, but came to *opposite* conclusions on the role of the ‘trauma Whipple’. The committee accepted both abstracts.

Margaret Louden FRCS died in 1998, aged 88. Clearly respected by prominent surgeons of the day, such as Ogilvie, Cope, Gordon-Taylor and others, Margaret Louden would surely have been a prominent academic surgeon today. Unfortunately, such was not the world at the time. ⬛️
