I unequivocally object to the Retiree Health Benefit Trust being used as a slush fund again. @nycretirees are in an affordability crisis imposed by the last Mayor that @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani has not addressed & the council hasn't either yet. I also fiercely object to the Unfunded Accrued Liabilities(UAL) being suggested & Pension Obligation Bonds(POB) which are also taxable. Think there's no risk? Look at Illinois & NJ. Who suggested this? Did not anyone learn that playing with retiree benefits has consequences? I guess after Seder & Easter - Retirees mobilize again. #refresher citymeetings.nyc/meetings/new-y…

@spring54494996 @CMCrystalHudson Don’t thank the wrong party. CM Crystal Hudson has never supported bills like Intro. 1096, to preserve the right of city retirees to Medicare plus a city-paid supplement. We asked for her support, and still do, continually. @NycRetirees

The preliminary budget is our city's first draft of a plan to fund and execute vital city services for the year ahead. We must remain open to a full range of thoughtful solutions, including new revenue options like taxing the ultra-wealthy.

@MichaelElsenRoo @AGZimmerman Thanks, Chalkbeat. So he’s accusing the council of asking for more time to reduce class size, when in fact he’s the one making that request. Don’t these misrepresentations bother anyone?

I learnt to read when I was four and never stopped. One of my favourite childhood books was Noddy Goes to Toyland. When I was 12 I discovered James Bond. What about you? What book made you start reading?

How did multiple @nytimes editors look at this story and not ask what the “J” stood for? Here’s a hint: It isn’t “Israel.”

Not to be THAT dictionary, but… It’s ‘per se,’ not ‘per say.’ It’s ‘dog-eat-dog world,’ not ‘doggy-dog world.’ It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’ It’s ‘one and the same,’ not ‘one in the same.’ It's 'buck naked,' not 'butt naked.'

@Bobby4Brooklyn @tomwatson @RossBarkan @Mets Too bad you don’t feel as strongly about loyalty to us NYC retirees, whom you used to support in our fight to preserve our health benefits. Didn’t see you in Albany last week when we lobbied for our bill. Regards, A Former Donor.

Ross you make this point every year. It’s highly offensive to @Mets fans. Generational Brooklynites and others are Mets fans because of the Dodgers or Giants. You also associate with journalists and political class people who may feel pulled toward the underdog - ie the Mets. I bet if you hung out with recent transplants who live in Murray Hill or the Upper East Side and work for a big law, finance, or tech firm you will find a lot are Yankee fans. To quote Curtis Granderson "true New Yorkers are Mets fans," Stop your obsession with hating on Mets fans.

Walk the streets of Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick, Ridgewood, Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights. Find a baseball fan who moved to NYC as an adult. Vast majority are Mets fans.
Sam Adler-Bell@SamAdlerBell

It used to be the Mets were dismissed as the schlubbly, uncouth, outer borough white-ethnic team, but Yankees fans, ever unsatisfied, bc of their own insecurities, had to figure out some new way to insist on their superiority, so they all started repeating this lazy bs

@frontierism @daveweigel People don’t want to think about it. The same happened with the 1918-1920 flu pandemic. Very few references to it in popular culture. I recently looked into a 1903 typhoid epidemic in Butler, PA, which drew wide attention but was quickly forgotten.

@petersterne @AmirKhafagy91 @JulieMenin @DC37nyc When Adrienne Adams was Speaker, DC37 successfully pressured her not to let a bill to preserve municipal retirees’ health benefits reach the floor. Few New Yorkers outside the public sector realize that DC37 wields more power than our elected officials.
