Myself and 3 other Nigerians have been unlawfully detained in Johannesburg airport for literally doing nothing, papers complete, visa valid and they literally just singled us out of the crowd for nothing, and onenof us's phone has been seized all day and hasn't been allowed to reach out to anyone. They are trying to take my own phone now, so I am putting this out so that the world knows that if anything happens to us, south Africa should be held responsible, please repost and tag the authorities concerned.. They are saying that they will detain us for no reason until God knows when. We want to humbly request you televise the disciplinary action live on social media. over the years we only hear “audio disciplinary action” no proper disciplinary action in the real time when clip like this goes viral, because before you know it the same officers are back on the road doing their unlawful and criminal jobs. Nigerian police often target young guys just for how they look dreads, tattoos, nice clothes, iPhones, gold chains, it starts to feel like being hunted, like prey in a trap. Stop and search isn’t the problem if it’s done professionally and respectfully. But driving into peaceful communities with no real cause, setting up random roadblocks, and treating innocent people like suspects isn’t right. You can do your job without invading my privacy. My phone isn’t your business. If you search me and find nothing, let me go in peace and no profiling, no false accusations, no labeling me as something I’m not. It’s sad that so many of us have had to live with this kind of experience from our youth into adulthood. It leaves a lasting sad impact💔
