In warm memory of Professor Janet T. Powell The European Society of Vascular Surgery is deeply saddened by the news that Professor Janet Powell died on 2nd March 2025. Professor Powell, Professor of Vascular Biology & Medicine at Imperial College, was a brilliant scientist, a compassionate mentor and a dedicated trial investigator whose focus on patient care was always at the forefront of her work. Her fundamental belief in the importance of seeking the best possible outcomes for patients was a pivotal part of so many of the research projects and clinical trials she expertly led. A key member of the ESVS AAA Guidelines Writing Committee, former Chair of the EVSJL Board of Directors and a long-standing member of the Society, it gave us immense pleasure to have dedicated an Honorary Lecture to this remarkable individual in a number of editions of our Annual Meeting. Professor Powell will be missed greatly by so many in our community and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to her family and loved ones.

The big problem is that these stents have gone down for a reason (often poor inflow). Unless we can address the reason for occlusion, the outcome from the second recanalization is all too often the same as the first..

In honor of #CIRSE2024, a variety of conventional and sharp recanalization techniques may fail to restore patency to chronically occluded venous stents. Direct percutaneous puncture may serve as an adjunctive technique for success. @cirsesociety @CVIR_Journal @cvirendo
