@SartenMr U-3 is in the Ada DLC. Along with a couple other things from the original that weren’t included in Leon’s story in the remake

playing thru RE4 original again and it’s a crime what the remake did to this game’s story. It’s so funny, so stupid, Leon is a fucking moron who says wild dumbass shit, calling Luis “Louis” the whole game. I remember now why this was the best game ever made for like 15 years

@Chibben_Fren A lot of artists want to avoid becoming stagnant so they experiment and try new things. Whether this is good or not is subjective of course (I prefer their older stuff too)

I realized how out of touch people with art industry is when I made homework for animation, and my cousin said "why are you still drawing like 3 yo, that's kid's hobby". I wonder if they think animation & comics are made by kids lmao, that comment was so absurd idk what to react

@NubisNoctis One, access to the original is not always a given. Two, they want more stuff that’s like the original and remakes that are treated as replacements and improvements over the originals decrease the odds of that because it makes people treat the originals as inferior and undesirable

@ChoctopusYT Its funny how people who claim "Original is all I care about", get so mad at remakes. They still have the original and literally nothing is stopping them from playing it over and over again. So wtf would they care if people play a remade version? I think they are just petty af

Remakes are a great way to capture a new audience. IMO they do not replace originals and, in MOST cases, I think people would agree they just co-exist alongside originals. I'm all for experiencing a game the way it was originally intended but technology has advanced. Stop gatekeeping and try to keep the conversation going. "Oh, you've only played the remake? If you liked it, you should check out the original. The controls are a bit dated but..." etc.

@spidermanias “old heads act like every little detail in the original game is what the devs wanted it to be like” It doesn’t have to be. A lot of cool things are made regardless of intent, sometimes by accident, or even in spite of intent. Artist intent is not the be-all-end-all

It’s even more mind blowing when some of the old heads act like every little detail in the original game is what the devs wanted it to be like. When we know for a fact that RE1 was supposed to be a first person shooter game but COUDLNT DUE TO LIMITATIONS OF HARDWARE.

@iamrobtv I am not a Capcom exec or investor. If a series continues in a form lacking what originally appealed to me, it has no value. If being a fan means unconditional brand slavery, the very concept of fandom is utter nonsense

I'm sorry but if this is how you view remakes you fundamentally do not understand the purpose of a remake. Though I am new to RE, I understand being an OG fan of something and seeing it remade for modern audiences can be frustrating. I've watched countless franchises that I adore undergo tonal and gameplay shifts to keep with the times and it sucks. But the reality is we love those originals because we played those originals. And we played them when they came out or close to it. & the purpose of a remake should be to A.) improve the original and/or B.) make the remake more accessible to a wider variety of gamers, if necessary. Resident Evil Remakes are a perfect example of doing this. OG fans cannot seem to comprehend the general sentiment towards fixed camera & tank controls. YOU loved it and maybe still do. Alot of people do. But 99% of people in the year 2026 are not going to play a PS1 era game with a fixed camera and tank controls to get into a series. That type of game is much more niche than you think it is. To continue growing this franchise, they have to make games people are actually going to play. Capcom recognized this and figured out how to deliver these remakes in a way that respect those past games and keep a lot of the same gameplay elements but in a modern setting. I swear some of these RE elitists would rather not get any new Resident Evil's at all and at that point I question whether or not you're an actual fan.

you can't really see it in the video because of compression, but there's this really strange dither filter over the entire game... why? i keep seeing recent indie games do this and it's just not appealing to me at all. it'd look perfectly fine without it!!!

@Cyberw0t 60 fps isn’t high enough to see natural motion blur. Your brain still perceives the strobing images. Higher than 60fps does gradually improve things but the faster objects move, the more frames you need (and you need a lot) to display them smoothly

I think a lot of great art is created by accident. That’s why when you need something to be mindfully and purposefully done such as faithfully recapturing the authenticity of another artistic work, even good artists (such as the one quoted by the quoted post) can falter

I dunno how some people are coming away with the conclusion that the localizers are the bad guys on this specific game. The 1990s were a vastly different technological and social time than now. Given that context, it’s a miracle Xenogears got released in the West at all.
Stealth@Stealth40k

Richard Honeywood says working on the localization of Xenogears was a nightmare: "You have to remember that the content was quite formidable: it's not only packed with references to Jungian and Freudian psychology, but it's also a game about killing god. At the time, I was a Jehovah's Witness, so that part of the subject matter was already kind of hitting my conscience, but some US staff were also scared about what the response would be. For instance, they wanted us to remove the word Church, with a capital, because it might appear to be the Catholic Church. So I was even having to go to the development team before the Japanese version launched, and I was telling them, 'Please tone down some of this stuff.' Initially, Brian and Nobby were working on the project in the US, along with Michael Baskett. While this was going on, there were some other changes in the US office. As I said, Final Fantasy VII had sold crazy amounts, and I think Michael wanted a bit more respect inside the company, but the Japanese management wasn't having any of it. So there was a falling out that I wasn't fully aware of, and I wrote to Nobby to find out what was happening. He said, 'It sounds like Michael's quitting.' Although they had only finished the first batch of text to translate, both Brian and Nobby made it clear that, for various reasons, they wanted off the project at that point. We moved Brian onto Chocobo Dungeon 2, I believe. I let Nobby help out on some other projects that needed to be done (but I later brought him back on Xenogears to help with QA), and that's where I had to become a lot more hands-on with the translation myself. Because I was in Japan, I didn't have access to English books, let alone German books, so I had to go to the National Library, where some of these foreign books were housed, to research these concepts and try to find out what they were in English. Remember, the internet was only just becoming a thing at Japanese companies back then. At that time, we had just gotten an intranet at the company, so we could email our American office, but we still didn't have fast data sharing. Even our QA bug reports had to be done by fax! We couldn't just go on Wikipedia and research some of this stuff, so, as you can imagine, it was a total nightmare! In the end, I nearly killed myself on that title, and people knew it. People saw me sleeping in the office every night and coming up like a zombie. We got to the point where I hardly ever went home, and I was just trying to get that out. At that point, they realized, 'This guy really is passionate about our titles and cares about them.' So we're not giving it to some foreigner who will just turn around a shoddy translation." timeextension.com/features/inter…
