Hot take: nobody should be hiring sales at pre-seed. As you state, founder should be selling, but also, at that stage, the product needs to be so good that sales almost just happens. At pre-seed, you want evidence that lots of potential customers have already bought into the founder's idea. If that isn't there, they have a lot of work to sell investors, employees, or anyone else on the idea.

Recently talked to a founder raising a pre-seed round who plans to use much of the cash to build out a sales team. Gulp. My perspective is that this rarely works and that founder-led sales will be necessary for another round or two. The founder was totally shocked. Never heard this feedback before. Who is helping first time founders with their sales strategy these days? We need to get the word out…
