@Azeem_Majeed Please give us the DBRCT where was established that the "prompt antibiotic use" PREVENT MENINGITIS FYI dear professor You can't call it "prophylaxis" if that haven't been established in required clinical trials. If you call it "prophylaxis" without evidence that's misinformation

Anyone receiving MenB vaccination as part of outbreak control measures needs to be aware that it takes 1-2 weeks for the immune response to develop and that a second dose is needed later. This is why prompt antibiotic prophylaxis is essential for close contacts of MenB cases.

@Rohith739 @kitty_cruiser @vivax74 @Microbedoc2 @parthaskar @gmcuk Costs the UK taxpayer roughly £230,000 to £250,000 to put one student through medical school. Each student gives a huge commitment to the NHS, plus £100,000 in debt. Ridiculous they haven’t been prioritised before now. Disgraceful how Government has treated both UKMGs and IMGs.

Lots of IMGs talking about US matching and UK policy. Let’s compare who can apply for training: US - insane STEP 1/2 - USCE - expensive entry - plenty of jobs UK - PLAB - no clinical experience needed - CREST signed off by anyone - cheaper entry - no jobs

Meningitis is NOT contagious, so what’s with all the nonsense? As my friend Kat Watkins says on FB today: “Meningitis is an infection in the brain caused by toxins passing the blood brain barrier. You cannot 'catch' it, it's not contagious 🙄🙄 So all this closing of schools is just theatre. It's to scare you into making sure you jab yourselves and your kids up. How many of those who have presented with meningitis, had the covid vax? Since its a side effect? As well as a side effect of many other jabs 🤷🤷”

@Microbedoc2 @robinmonotti The original poster says a bit further down that he “imagines most lumbar puncture tests are done post mortem” It’s amazing the conclusions you can come to when you live in a world of pure imagination 🤣

@LongCovidHell @BBCBreakfast I think what will end up happening is a targeted vaccination of those at high risk e.g. university students in halls of residence.

@Microbedoc2 @BBCBreakfast Honesty about the process doesn’t make the conclusion right. If the framework is flawed or misapplied, real harm can follow. Authorities should be able to admit mistakes, especially when lives are affected. Accountability matters more than defending stupid decisions.

'People shouldn't imagine this is an infection that is suddenly going to start shooting through the population' On #BBCBreakfast Adam Finn, a former member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, was asked whether there should be a catch up programme for young people not vaccinated against Meningitis B, the strain of bacteria behind the outbreak of meningitis cases in Kent bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@robinmonotti because nearly all patients where meningitis was suspected would have a LP before the blood cultures would have had the time to grow the bacteria.

@robinmonotti LPs are performed on pretty much all suspected cases of meningitis. If Men B was found in the blood stream and they had consistent clinical syndrome e.g. headache/neck stiffness/photophobia there wouldn't be a huge amount of benefit performing an LP. But that is beside the point

@LongCovidHell @BBCBreakfast I think he's being honest about how interventions are assessed. All interventions vaccines included are assessed on CE. Look at the alzhiemers drugs - some evidence of slowing disease but not available on nhs because not seen to be cost effective.

@BBCBreakfast Adam can fuck right off. How dare he minimise the deaths of these young people and start bleating on about what’s “cost-effective”. That’s the JCVI in a nutshell. Money over lives, but especially young lives, as we’ve seen with Covid too. Shameful attitude.

@nottherealmarko Omg you should see the state of nhs staff toilets. Its like highly trained professionals become cavemen once they enter a cubical. Piss everywhere, shites that block the toilet as they cover with bog roll. Seriously "your life in their hands" - not those filthy hands!

I have lifelong ties to the UK, Germany, and France. I also spent 18 years in the US—where my whole family are citizens. I am profoundly embarrassed. When America needed it most, the UK, once our unbreakable partner in the special relationship, chose caution over courage. Europe for the most part is not much better.

Once again, Trump exposes the fact that Keir Starmer is not a leader. Ed Miliband, Yvette Cooper, Lord Hermer and his left wing Cabinet are dragging him around, just as multiple journalists have reported. Starmer is not a leader, never will be.

@SBarrettBar If you look at the opinion polls. The UK does not want another Middle Eastern war. If we put warmongers like you on the frontline there would be less indiscriminate calls for war. Can't imagine it tbh you were nearly crying like a baby being removed from Marylebone station.

@parthaskar @Xeon4f145d96s1 I think there is a significant level of callousness regarding how IMGs in the system are being treated, and I think they should not have the rug pulled from under them. Priority could have been given while also adhering to principles of fairness and recognition that people have
