@JakeYeston If you find a good science server let us know. I found nothing. If I understand correctly, it's not irreversible, you can migrate.

This is a serious plea. Is there a good thread or blog post somewhere explaining how Mastodon differs from Twitter and what to do to most constructively set up shop there? Basically all I see now are “Hi—my handle over there is name@server” and jokes about how it’s complicated.

@PomplunSeb @DirkTrauner Group has had mix of org/chem biol/analytical grad students and regular group meeting problem sets based on recent lit. Some days are problems related to chem bio and analysis—no arrow pushing.

#newPI asking question on group meetings: Organic chemistry groups often do chemical problem sets (e.g., @DirkTrauner Denksport). Does anybody propose an analogue activity for bioorganic chemistry or chem-bio groups?

Our stockroom is putting bows on all the packages like presents, and it’s the cutest thing ever! I love how they go all out for holidays!

@vela_group I will greatly miss Pat. She was a major inspiration as I started my own independent career at ISU.

Fall semester starts Monday; today we picnic and appreciate spring and summer work bearing fruit at the group’s sanity plot in the community gardens

@laura_mckemmish Definitely—you will note the Creative Commons license at the bottom. Send me an email if you need a higher res version. (And sorry for the late reply. Too eventful!)

@NPohl_Group Love the application! Would it be possible for me to show the poster (credited of course!) to advanced 1st yr class as an excellent example of how computing can help chemists more broadly (the key message of our workshop classes)?

Teaching #IUPAC chemical nomenclature in #OrgChem actually becomes intellectually interesting when you start thinking about how to talk to a computer about 3D objects...

@NPohl_Group The SMILES and Inchi-keys are definitely useful! Python packages nowadays convert one to the other to 2D classical chemical structure to 3D optimised geometry (& yes produce IUPAC naming) and make modifications to the structures very easily - all enabled by naming systematically

@laura_mckemmish I used this #RSCEdu #RSCPoster in teaching a ~300-person required undergrad 2nd semester organic class that emphasized the changes that automation/AI are bringing to chemistry & medicine. No control gp; seems to have increased engagement in thinking about nomenclature though

@SorinaChiorean Make it clear what you can bring to the new lab and also what you hope to learn. Tailor each application to an individual. (Amazing how many “Dear Sir” applications I have received.) And definitely do not take any “no” replies personally!
