@JasonPYYC Last fall, WCB paid for hubby’s MRI The number of people in that packed waiting room at a private clinic paying $800-1000 for a diagnosis was heartbreaking (majority of patients) Some it was not their first visit - some needing info regarding cancer.

Waiting for your scan? Willing to have this clarified by a radiologist - My understanding from radiology colleagues is that the number of scans they are “allowed” to run is capped by gov’t, not by demand. Our population -and population medical complexity is climbing.

@John1MD @YourAlberta Our options are limited. 13 customized systems and the costs that go w/ it: 1) pay more / person to increase diagnostics. 2) 13 customized systems & add more private pay services, those who cannot afford will suffer. Or 3) amalgamate system / admin management & free $ for care.

@John1MD @YourAlberta Door number 3? Nationalize and re-focus all the duplicate admin costs into hands on care. Between system admin & multiple duplicate HIS initiatives across Canada we would free billions annually to go into diagnostic services and hands on care.

This table from CIHI covers what we pay for 13 independent administration systems (per definition). This table excludes the cost of Health information / records systems that we also pay in the billions for. #saveCanadaHC 2/

Imagine your child being diagnosed with cancer, but before the oncologists can proceed with a custom treatment plan for them (based on science and best practices), you need CT of the head/chest/abdomen/pelvis. W/o such, the treatment defaults to guess work…2

Prov elections don’t fix healthcare and it’s not possible to go into the required detail to debate & educate the public on the issues.

@DonaldLepp Density has nothing to do with the performance difference. Dr’s & providers / person, not by Sq Km. JPN hospital non-profit, they do not compete anymore than Cdn hosp & take a team approach. Japan National Gov sets care fee’s. Copay doesn’t impact performance of health workers.
