"A man led a procession to drink water from a public tank in 1927. It took until 1937 for the courts to confirm that he was entitled to do so." @sanjayuvacha on why the Mahad Satyagraha deserves its centenary.

I write in @the_hindu on the need to celebrate the centenary of the #MahadSatyagraha . Before the Dandi March, it was the Mahad Tank struggle that laid the foundation for equality under the constitution.

Back in 2010, over drinks, perhaps the third or fourth peg, the late poet-activist Kalekuri Prasad made a sharp observation:
"Modern Indian society can no longer operate without either praising or abusing Dr B.R. Ambedkar. More than 15 years on, that remark feels eerily prophetic. Today, we see figures like Vijayendra Prasad, claiming respect for Ambedkar while showing scant real engagement with his writings or the Ambedkarite movement, offer "praise" that veers into distortions, stereotypes, or fabricated anecdotes, quietly undermining the icon they purport to honour.
Kalekuri's insight cut deeper than casual commentary: it exposed Ambedkar's inescapable centrality. Dr B. R. Ambedkar's legacy has become the unavoidable axis of Indian social and political discourse, compelling constant confrontation, whether through genuine reverence or veiled criticism.

Mala Sankshema Sangham has demanded an FIR under the SC/ST Act against writer Vijayendra Prasad, father of filmmaker SS Rajamouli, accusing him of making casteist remarks and distorting Ambedkar’s legacy.

The Chhattisgarh Assembly recently passed the Freedom of Religion Bill 2026 to curb forced, fraudulent, coercive, or induced religious conversions—provisions that can be justified to prevent exploitation.
However, requirements for public declarations and prior approval before changing faith risk violating personal liberty under Article 25 of the Constitution.
The greater worry is potential state overreach and societal pressure, which could undermine the true essence of religious freedom guaranteed by our Constitution.

War means human suffering—families shattered, futures erased & fear replacing hope. No narrative can justify the cost paid by ordinary people who never chose the battlefield. True leadership prevents conflict, not explains it after the damage is done.

Respected Advocate friend, Dr Karthik Navayan Battula practising in the Telangana High Court, greetings.
I would like to say a few words about your colleague practising in the High Court,
Mr Karthik Navayan, who is contesting for the position of Secretary of the Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association (THCAA).
I have known Karthik Navyan closely since his student days. At this juncture, I have extended my support to him in his efforts to reach this position. I first met him when he approached me seeking help to secure relief for his brother, who was facing a serious threat of police encounter.
From that time onwards, I observed in him a strong zeal to study law and establish himself in the legal profession, with a commitment to serve the deprived and marginalised communities from which he himself comes. I have also noticed in him great perseverance and a deep commitment to the cause of justice.
I therefore appeal to you to kindly cast your valuable vote in favour of Mr Karthik Navayan. I wish and hope that he will play an active role in safeguarding and advancing the welfare of the advocates’ community.
Regards,
S. Jeevan Kumar
