@meltorights He kind of is. Like just to be clear, this isn't bullshit, he clearly actually included all these trains in this shot for this exact reason, even though hardly anyone would be smart enough to figure out what it meant. Who does that? It's almost Kubrickian.

This is noticed by few people, but Attack of the Clones literally explains why Dexter's Diner looks like that. The establishing shot of the diner and surrounding neighborhood includes visual details that imply a history for the neighborhood that mirrors the cultural developments that led to that architectural style in our own world. These kinds of Streamline Moderne diners drew inspiration from things like trains and ships and cars, things that were sleek and fast and aerodynamically rounded. This visual inspiration extended to the interiors, which is where you get the long horizontal layouts with booth seating opposite counter seats directly adjoining an open kitchen. These all evoked the interior design of things like railroad dining cars. In fact, the term "diner" itself was originally applied to these railroad dining cars. That's where the term comes from in this context. Some of the earliest examples of these kinds of "diners," in fact, were simply former railroad dining cars that had been detached and turned into stationary restaurants. As I noted in the quoted post, the very first train that shoots past in the establishing shot has the same color scheme and red "fins" as Dex's Diner. Lucas obviously knew all about this history and actually went out of his way to justify the existence of Dex's Diner in this environment. It's actually really cool and fascinating how he did this. It's one of those details that's there specifically for architectural history nerds. But of course, all this flew over the heads of the people most likely to complain and call Lucas a moron.

@ambientModality @MorosKostas We’d have to agree to disagree on that, I see no problem with a clerk whipping up a rough draft per general guidelines and then the judge directing next steps. That said, the scenario with that specific judge certainly does violate even those lesser norms

@NeilMcCaul5203 @MorosKostas It’s custom in a lot of courtrooms. But the statutory role is to interpret. It is not merely to signal assent to an administrative apparatus. Direct dictation, practical training and pro forma support are the limit of that discretion. There *is* a norm being violated here.

@ambientModality @MorosKostas I don’t know about that. In my experience clerks do much of the actual “typing” of an opinion, as well as orders. Some judges don’t ever type out a single word, but instead direct clerks what they want in an opinion/order

@MorosKostas > it’s normal for clerks to do first drafts Common. It’s common for them to do so. Clerks should not be drafting opinions either. Requests to violate norms may be common in frequency but that cannot be construed to make the practice of engaging in such violations normal.

The Spurs know how to TAKE the lead, they just don't know how to HOLD the lead. And that's really the most important part of the lead: the holding

Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 gives the NFL a limited antitrust exemption. Otherwise the NFL in negotiating TV contracts as one entity (teams colluding on fees for broadcast rights) would be in violation of antitrust laws. I hope you can start to see that the government is clearly having a say in how the NFL operates. Getting back to network broadcast rights, generally speaking fans get to watch games for free on the broadcast networks. There have been lawsuits regarding NFL Sunday Ticket the gist of which is the NFL is violating anti trust laws in such arrangements IE it isn’t covered by the Sports Broadcasting Act. Likewise with streaming broadcast rights. Sunday Ticket lawsuit is on going. Won’t get into the history of the lawsuit but it is interesting. Obviously technology has changed the broadcast landscape from what it was in 1961. Congress is dealing with that.

.@ClayTravis is exactly right. The fan experience for fans right now is disappointing. Pay more and get less. NFL and other major sports league fans are getting squeezed while trying to follow their favorite team for a season.

In June 2000, Robin Williams sat down for a conversation with George Lucas for Robin's brief weekly interview show on audible. The episode was originally thirty minutes but below you'll find the entire raw recording from two different sessions, with discussions ranging from Marlon Brando as Jabba the Hutt, to Lucas asking if Robin would voice a CG Howard the Duck for a special edition of the '86 movie 👏 Really cool

In the 90s my homie’s band got in an “everyone should have died” accident on tour. Oncoming traffic, rolled multiple times, etc. When the van came to rest below the embankment, the tape deck started and “Just Want to See His Face” came through the speakers. Exile has big juju.

I just listened to "Exile on Main St" in its entirety for the first time. It really is a boring-ass album, I think everyone was right to reject it at first. The Rolling Stones are the only band I can think of where the big hits really are the best of what they have to offer.
