This is noticed by few people, but Attack of the Clones literally explains why Dexter's Diner looks like that. The establishing shot of the diner and surrounding neighborhood includes visual details that imply a history for the neighborhood that mirrors the cultural developments that led to that architectural style in our own world. These kinds of Streamline Moderne diners drew inspiration from things like trains and ships and cars, things that were sleek and fast and aerodynamically rounded. This visual inspiration extended to the interiors, which is where you get the long horizontal layouts with booth seating opposite counter seats directly adjoining an open kitchen. These all evoked the interior design of things like railroad dining cars. In fact, the term "diner" itself was originally applied to these railroad dining cars. That's where the term comes from in this context. Some of the earliest examples of these kinds of "diners," in fact, were simply former railroad dining cars that had been detached and turned into stationary restaurants. As I noted in the quoted post, the very first train that shoots past in the establishing shot has the same color scheme and red "fins" as Dex's Diner. Lucas obviously knew all about this history and actually went out of his way to justify the existence of Dex's Diner in this environment. It's actually really cool and fascinating how he did this. It's one of those details that's there specifically for architectural history nerds. But of course, all this flew over the heads of the people most likely to complain and call Lucas a moron.

RIP David Hockney I once printed these out at Walgreens and when I picked them up the employees at the photo studio were laughing at me and I was like “this broke a record for most expensive painting by a living artist” as if that was going to make me seem like less of an f word

@StMichael71 The rite of the Order of St John/Hospitallers had a standard Last Gospel from the first chapter of St John, certainly from the beginning of the 16th century, and there's no suggestion of Romanisation at that stage. So your claim about "all mediaeval rites" is wrong.

In fact, the Lauda Sion /ends/ precisely with anticipation of the eternal paschal banquet, which is, of course, the goal for which we worship the Sacrament: Tuos ibi commensales Cohaeredes et sodales Fac sanctorum civium.

The corpus christi hymn par excellence, of course, is the Lauda Sion, in worship of the Blessed Sacrament. However, the multiple references to "panis" (bread), "mensa" (table), "coena" (supper) show that for Aquinas, the meal dimension is hardly separate from the worship!
Josh Mansfield@WalkingHymnal

A parish that does "Table of Plenty", "One Bread One Body", "I Am the Bread of Life" for Corpus Christi completely misses the point. It's not about the Church, as Christ's body, sharing a meal. Corpus Christi is about the worship of the Blessed Sacrament as Christ's Real Presence

@angcathalex This was a change I used to support--I can see why language about "abhorring" the womb could be uncomfortable! It seems body-negative. But of course it's not--wombs are sticky and messy. That God does not abhor the womb impresses its dignity upon us.

@angcathalex Similar to "O Come All Ye Faithful"; "Lo! He abhores not the virgin's womb" becomes the rather anodyne "Lo! He comes forth from the virgin's womb"

A weird thing the contemporary world is that the average secular person is very confident they have a rational and scientific worldview, yet they have tons of beliefs that are sort of very obviously mystical or “woo”. But this doesn’t register to them at all.
