When I created @LayoffAI it was the day after BLOCK laid off 40% of their workforce and blamed AI. Stock went bonkers. I was finishing up a consulting gig where I automated 5 people in an accounting department out of a job. The pieces clicked. I knew this wasn’t going to stop and there needed to be a way to track all of this. The irony is that I use AI to automate a lot of the tracking and updates. What I wasn’t aware of was the amount of American’s losing their jobs to cheaper foreign labor. That has been the biggest surprise here. $Layoff isn’t just about AI coming for us all (which it is, it’s inevitable, I’ll argue this point for hours), but it’s also about the audacity of big tech to treat us like cogs in their wheel and lie to our faces about what’s happening. In many instances, they are so far behind in AI automation, but blame it anyway while hiring foreign born employees to replace the same people they are laying off (see SNAP). I will continue to investigate and track it all. This coin is a movement, and we will onboard normies. Roadmap includes podcasts and providing a REAL severance package that appreciates to REAL people that were laid off. This will be the people’s coin. I want to build this for years. It’s been a blast, the community is so strong, and the data is eye opening. What’s happening in the world right now is absolutely wild. Biggest shift in labor since the Industrial Revolution. We are truly just getting started.
