Excited to share my latest paper on the role of calcineurin in cytokinesis in a critical human pathogen. It started with a genetic screen to identify mutants that are resistant to calcineurin inhibitors, which led us to a very unexpected place. A short 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

4/4 Based on our cryo-EM structure, we established how urate interacts with SLC2A9 transporter, and we provide the mechanistic details of disease-causing mutations. Our study provides the structural platform to develop new inhibitors for combating the Gout disease. @G_CANgout
