I joined a debate on pensions in which the complaint was 1 in 4 pensioners were millionaires, which of course includes property. I pointed out that a Universal Credit claim would not count a main home as capital. Would a means tested State Pension have similar rules?

@annaroseridgway @lisakeb007 Why should people be expected to downgrade the home they’ve worked so hard for? Our younger son still lives at home (saving up) and works 2 days a week at home. Our older son lives away so comes to visit with his wife and our grandchild. Why shouldn’t we maintain room for this?

Why don’t we:
1) means test the state pension, millionaires don’t need benefits.
2) increase the amount we give to the pensioners who need it the most.
3) stop the unsustainable triple lock.

But pensions alone are about 60% of the welfare budget.
Many of them are perfectly able to work. The stipend is too high and starts too early especially for those who can still work.

My water rates went up 29% in the last year.
My council tax went up 6%.
My grocery shop has gone up about 15% in the same period.
My BT bill has gone up about 8%.
My gas/electric has gone up about 10%.
Even with the triple lock, my state pension hasn't gone up in line with the above.
And I'm sure the same is true for working people too.
This isn't the fault of the vast majority of the population. It's incompetent governments. For decades. That's led us into this pickle.

My daughter owns her own house in West Sussex.
My two stepdaughters own their own houses in Cornwall.
My eldest grandson is buying his own house, on his own, in Lancashire.
My eldest granddaughter is buying her own flat, on her own, in East Sussex.
Because they have a work ethic and aren't spendthrifts.

Majority of all the 4, 5 and 6 bedroom homes in my area are all occupied by boomers.
They spend all day from Spring to Autumn gardening. Some of them can barely bend down. I’ve no idea why they wouldn’t just sell up. Instead they complain about being unable to heat the property.
Any time a home comes up for sale, it’s because someone has died.
Then a lot of people don’t even want to buy them because they’ve not been decorated since 1985 and have no bath.

There are boomers sitting in large houses who don’t even want to free up equity or sell their house to help their own children get on the ladder. This is the level of selfishness we are dealing with. Thank god for parents like my mother She would sell her house in Tottenham tomorrow if it meant helping me…. And I would do anything to make her life comfortable- that’s what family is about. An eco system of giving. These days many boomers don’t want to help with grandchildren or finacial assistance and children don’t want to help their parents - so much selfishness between recent generations and it will get worse.

My take is that this whole war is staged. Does that mean people aren't dying and bombs aren't being dropped? Of course not. Casualities are just pawns in this game. The truth of the matter is that this war is being used to cause an energy crisis and it's already happening. This energy crisis will cause a worldwide economic collapse that will have people begging for a solution. The solution? The New World Order aka The Great Reset. We are all being played to accept what's coming. The Golden Age they keep referring to is a nice way to say a New World Order. Which will soon be followed by the Mark of the Beast. In order for you to survive in this dystopian nightmare you will have to sell your soul. It's happening right before your eyes yet most people are too prideful to admit it.

This is the heart of the UK problem: too many jobs do not pay enough to build a life. If work does not cover rent, bills, food, transport and some margin for living, then the economy is not healthy - it is failing.

@mrmikeMTL Errrrr I’m 73 and we didn’t eat spaghetti - we ate macaroni as a milk pudding and there was Heinz spaghetti in cans (🤮) - olive,oil was warmed for earaches. But we DID have vegetables in season and proper home cooked food
