Was there really any doubt at all that this would work?!? These micro shelter sites have been used in several other Ontario cities for many years now. Yes, shelter spaces fill when opened… They always have. Success should be defined as no longer needing them #LdnOnt
London Free Press@LFPress

City hall’s micro shelter site is earning praise from politicians, as the facility reaches capacity and they say homeless Londoners are being drawn out of encampments. @JackAtLFPress has more: tinyurl.com/2f4u3kms #ldnont

Thanks to @HamiltonPolice for hearing me out about the impact of "safe-supply" opioids. This was intended to keep people off fentanyl but it's also being diverted to vulnerable people. Watch if you have time drive.google.com/file/d/1_8x3l_…

@BayObserver Thank you for a great article & giving the inadvertent victims a voice. Ridiculous that these activists continuously fight to keep systems in place that have failed, while completely undermining the enormous negative impact they have on society as a whole, including addicts.

With the annual Al Chuds day taking place in Toronto, made me wonder Does Sara Jamas husband let her outside the house? Where did #hamont's perennial activist disappear to?

@SassyTravis @StevensonLDN do you know the difference between safe supply and safe consumption sites? I agree accessing services is complicated and hard and not readily available. Do you also think that perpetuating serious addiction because we haven't figured out how to fund recovery is the answer?

@StevensonLDN Do you have any idea what the process is like to get help, councillor? I’m asking a serious question, do you have any idea what the steps are, how long they take, and how much they cost? Or are you just spouting ignorance again?

It’s time for London to focus on recovery. For many years now, including this Council’s endorsement of the the Whole of Community System Response, London’s focus has been on reducing the stigma of illegal drug use and helping make illegal drug use safer. Many believe this has not worked out well - at all. In April 2024, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health said the province should decriminalize drugs and expand “safer” supply. The Premier said no, Ontario would follow the Alberta Model of recovery oriented systems of care. London’s endorsed framework supports decriminalization and substance use supports. My motion to stop handing out crack/meth pipes and fentanyl straws/foil with homeless funding, was not voted on by the Committee Mar 9. Instead, the Mayor supported advocating to the province for inhalation services at London’s supervised injection site. Even though the province’s stance is a recovery focus - and a clear rejection of the more radical harm reduction focus of previous years. Now with yesterday’s announcement that provincial funding for London’s injection site will end June 13, will Council support my motion to stop handing out smoking equipment for illegal drug use with homeless funding? Will Council support a motion that stops the duplication of harm reduction outreach services already funded by the health unit? Will Council support some restrictions on the handing out of crack/meth pipes in public spaces like in our business districts and in our neighbourhood parks? Londoners will find out on March 31. Will there be a seconder for my motion? Will there be 8 votes willing to end this duplication of taxpayer funded services that also works contrary to the taxpayer funded enforcement activities of the police? Many Londoners want to see a reduction in open public drug use. They want change. #LdnOnt

Hamilton’s water billing transition is nearly $2M over budget and asking residents to send sensitive banking info via unencrypted email. Process matters, we have to get municipal projects right the first time. Protect your data and pay via your own bank portal for now. #Hamont

@BerniceC @StevensonLDN this is such a weird notion, that you can't want safe spaces and people to be housed, those are not mutually exclusive. I don't want my kids to pick up drugs off the floor in my library. I don't want library staff to accidentally ingest traces of Fentanyl. Not too much to ask.

@StevensonLDN There no hope in sight because homelessness is a policy choice - you’re the problem, Councillor. Where is the compassion for the families who’re unhoused or housing insecure, Councillor? It’s *almost* as if giving lps a $1-Billion made things worse in #ldnont. #housingnotcops

Indeed. As a senior, I would like to take some of the programs at the central library, especially the 3D printing program. Being asked for spare change, and being sworn at when I say "No", deters me from returning to downtown London. I also miss going to Covent Garden Market, with the same issue. I worked in the downtown core from 1989 until 1992. The downtown core in 2026 is not worth the risk.

With the recent news of Hamilton considering the temporary closure of its downtown library due to drug use, several Londoners ask why we aren’t talking about that issue with our Central Library in downtown #LdnOnt? Not even 10 years since a beautiful revitalization investment was made, the stories that I hear and what I have experienced myself at that location are quite simply intolerable. Great cities have great downtown libraries; beautiful, safe and actively used - for reading, learning and socializing. As Council prepares to receive and discuss both the 2026 Economic Development Strategy and 2026 Downtown Strategy (taxpayer funded with $650K during this term of Council), what role does our downtown library have in driving and leading the success on our commitment to a vibrant downtown neighbourhood and attractive destination? Safe for families, visitors and staff?

@StevensonLDN I wonder if they can further quantify how much they invest in prevention and treatment. O'er here in Hamilton, a temporary closure of the library may be necessary to manage the crisis thepublicrecord.ca/2026/02/hamilt…

It has been reported by the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU), that the following items were handed out in 2025: • Pipes (crack and meth) = 224,079 • Needles = 602,983 • Condoms = 122,187 • Cookers = 274,867 • Foil (fentanyl) = 1,540,774 • Straws, as part of snort kits = 6,379 The handing out of inhalation supplies (for illegal drugs like crack, meth, fentanyl, etc) is coming under increased debate and discussion recently. Especially with London and other Cities asking the Province to declare a State of Emergency. What more can we do at the Municipal level to help reduce illegal drug use in public spaces? Particularly in our Core Area (Downtown, Midtown, Old East Village). #LdnOnt

@HamiltonLibrary is considering a closure to cope with the drug crisis it faces each day they are open, also citing labour relations concerns due to unsafe workng conditions. Here is what @Ward2Hamilton had to say about the situation, via Joey Coleman. facebook.com/share/v/17zSVw…
