Convention does not allow for any to be applied by the crown — that's precisely the problem. You're describing a system where real constitutional powers are only held in check by tradition. That's not a safeguard, that's trust-based governance with no enforcement mechanism.
"Only once has the GG removed a sitting PM" — so it HAS happened. The power is real. It's been used. And the person who holds it is still chosen by the PM.
Pointing out a structural conflict of interest isn't fear mongering. It's accountability.
