@RogerthePolice @leembroad i've got 30 yrs on the job so please don't presume to tell me i don't understand policing currently or in the past. these officers either didn't follow training for whatever reason or weren't trained properly to begin with. period.

There was a post incident procedure with IOPC oversight in the aftermath of this incident. The officers were treated as witnesses and a recent IOPC statement suggests that status has not changed. It’s fairly evident that the officers initial actions and decision making has been assessed against the available information at the time and deemed reasonable. The outrage and hyperbole by some former colleagues - who are chomping at the bit to see serving officers thrown to wolves - sickens me. Many need to take a step back and remember that policing is in the state it is largely because of historical fuck ups and because many now vocal remained relatively silent and acquiesced during their service. If you truly believe that - in the current hyper scrutinised pressure pot that policing exists in - that two officers made a conscious choice to ‘let an 18 year old die’ then you really are better off out of policing because that belief says more about you, than it does about those that remain and continue to do a thankless job in an increasingly hostile environment.
