Coded Care: Can Machines Embody Affection, or Can They Only Emulate It? 'Nintendogs' (2017) by Fabian Kühfuß A kinetic exploration of affection, automating petting to question if mechanical actions can truly embody genuine care, or if we merely project our own yearning onto them.

@dariusdan "rough time to start as a designer" and it's just too many tools that let you make anything you've ever dreamed of.

Rough time to start as a designer. A new tool drops every week and the noise is deafening.😶 What actually lasts is taste, aesthetic sense, curation, understanding user behavior, and the discipline to simplify instead of add.

@RockyRoark Are they selling "you don't need a designer" or were you hooked by clickbait influencers? I don't see any replacing of designers, I see new tools.

Rocky Roark ✶ Brand Sprints
OpenAI hired Jony Ive. Gamma, Perplexity, and Superhuman all hired the same branding studio. Every AI company selling “you don’t need a designer” is quietly paying designers to build their own brand. The companies closest to the technology are the ones least willing to trust it with.
Joshua Blankenship@blankenship

Interesting. Gamma paid “the design tax” to a fantastic design agency for their brand identity. I’d love to see a robust public conversation about how AI design tools aren’t good enough for companies to use on their own brands, but are ostensibly good enough for their customers.

@RobynUrback "Vibes" as set by our government-owned media and political system that, gosh darn it, just keeps electing liberals for 70% of the last century. I guess its just the whims and vibes of the moment and not, you know, the overwhelming forces.

@spirodonfl It's a piece of code you can run offline. It takes words as input and outputs other words with math. Yeah.... it's a lot like a calculator.

@PixelAloha Its like thinking comparing LLMs to calculators is a good comparison. Something *has* gone away and its the neuronal integrity of people who make stupid statements like this

Metaverse shutting down after spending 800000000000000000000000000000000000 freedom dollars on it proves LLMs can go away too. These things can be put back in the box for better things.

@underIineoasl People will overdramatize TikTok as some modern brainrot but... It's just cable TV. It's slightly more gamed/tracked/faster... but it's the same thing that captured boomers in the 80s and 90s. "Channel surfing"

Deleting TikTok proper exposed my phone addiction. I mindlessly try open it like every 20 mins for absolutely no reason even though I know it’s been deleted. They really cooked our brains with this technology stuff

@dariusdan Figma wasn't even industry standard until 5 years ago. If you're a designer and you believe in some ye olde toolset: good luck. You need to be switching them up often, and the best tool of 2026 might in fact have a prompt box...

Want to be a designer? Pick up a pen. Use paper. Grab a camera. Learn Figma. Don't skip those. Because no prompt box will ever make you one.

@TheLoneDalek20 I'm old enough to remember when older people would grumble about computers, scoff at any idea of art on screens, scoff at any music made in a sequencer, regarded photoshop as slop, call videogames "beep beep games" that rot kids' minds.... We're back. You're back.

@VraserX I've noticed this completely collapsing. In an age of Claude Code and OpenClaw and Grok, people are not necessarily saying ChatGPT like 2023 anymore..... its more becoming "AI".

OpenAI’s biggest moat is not IQ. It’s that normal people already use “ChatGPT” as the verb for talking to intelligence.

politicians in their 40s right now have facebook posts from 2008 that are cringe as hell. if you give it another cycle or two & we’re gonna get senators with cringeposts, onlyfans adjacent content, & genuinely unhinged discord server activity. there is nothing really genuinely ephemeral online anymore.

@nikicaga We had metrosexualism in the year 2000. It's more like men caring about grooming is a constant possibility that occasionally resurfaces, only to inevitably be pushed back down by masculine peer pressure.

@savvypleb Yeah, but people in the day wouldn't just stumble into it either. It was an all consuming quest to go out and overcome your limitations and against all odds, get laid. The phone kills that quest, and it's not a similar level of entertainment in the slightest.
