HB26-1126, as written, would fine small businesses up to 100,000 dollars... Rep. Woog ran an amendment to bring that number down. Unfortunately, the Dems killed that amendment. Hear more from @DanielPWoog and @RepCarlosBarron.

Today in committee, @RepCarlosBarron's bill SB26-110 just passed committee! This cleans up and modernizes language in Colorado’s public-assistance funeral and final disposition statute without changing benefit amounts, eligibility, or reimbursement structure, improving clarity for families, counties, and providers at no new cost to taxpayers.

House Republicans fought hard against the Labor Peace Act but it still passed. @RepCarlosBarron gives a short update:

Today is Rare Disease Day. While every rare disease is unique, it is not rare to have a rare health condition...I stand with those who show their stripes and am proud to have a voice on House Health & Human Services to help spread support. #COLeg #COPolitics

A common-sense energy bill by @RepCarlosBarron and @RepFlanell was killed in committee! This important bill attempted to strike the balance between environmental accountability, consumer fairness, and public safety by excluding residential customers from gas utilities’ clean heat plan baselines. This would have ensured utilities are not unfairly penalized for emissions outside of their direct control. This bill would have promoted transparency and regulatory clarity by allowing utilities to revise clean heat plans without disrupting long-term planning or creating unnecessary administrative burdens.

Today, with the leadership of @RepCarlosBarron, the House passed a joint resolution recognizing the military service of Latino and Latina community members. Rep. Barron, a proud Mexican immigrant, joined this bipartisan effort to honor the heritage and contributions of Latino servicemen and servicewomen.

🚨🚨🚨Despite strong opposition from local mayors and county commissioners across Colorado, HB26-1001 still passed committee. This bill strips local communities of their ability to make basic land use decisions and hands sweeping zoning power to the state, overriding neighborhood rules with little local input. This approach sidelines local governments and risks permanent changes to communities without clear limits or accountability.

Today, I ran an amendment advocating for our legal immigrant communities. As an immigrant myself, I understand the value that legal immigrants bring to our state. I was deeply disappointed that this amendment failed along party lines.

Tonight, I am honored to have received the Taxpayer Warrior award from the Colorado Union of Taxpayers (CUT)

My question in HHS Committee Wednesday:
If health care affordability keeps falling behind housing and other costs, is that the consequence of Colorado’s increasingly burdensome regulatory environment?

Another legislative session is upon us. Being in the minority and seeing the bad legislation come through here knowing we can’t do much about it but fight is heart breaking. On the upside of all that, I am truly happy to be back in the building with all my good friends and colleagues I have gotten close to last year! Here’s to a hopeful upside to this session!
