Everyone needs to be reminded that a not-for-profit grocery chain exists in Canada: Co-op, and they’re across western Canada. Prices are comparable to for-profit chains. Also Saskatchewan has a publicly owned telecoms company, SaskTel. It is a competitive market and some people still choose for-profit providers. These are good options but not magical ones! They don’t solve poverty and hunger and they definitely aren’t 35% cheaper.
cbcwatcher@cbcwatcher

Avi Lewis on CBC claims "We're talking about, for instance, with groceries developing a chain of 50 publicly owned and operated grocery stores across the country with six or seven regional distribution hubs that would be able to provide groceries to Canadians 30 to 45% cheaper than what they're paying right now." Then he claims "To just blast this idea out there on social media platforms and we got thousands of responses from conservatives who were interested in this idea of a public option for groceries." Margins at grocery stores are notoriously low in the 3–5% range. Looks like Avi's strategy is to out BS Mark Carney, Master BS'er @avilewis

Why does it take 45 minutes + to get bags @FlyYEG? @WestJet get more crews working or something. This is ridiculous (and consistently happening). 6 hour flight, kids have school tomorrow and we are sitting here for almost an hour waiting already. Does anyone care about service?

Tbh, the strangest thing about this whole mess is the fact that Iran has managed to close Hormuz AND continue to export oil, and the only substantive US response has been to relax sanctions on Iran, allowing it to make more money than it has in years.
Shashank Joshi@shashj

Absolutely remarkable. "Iran is now earning nearly twice as much from oil sales each day as it did before American and Israeli bombs started falling on February 28th. It may be pummelled on the battlefield, but the regime is winning the energy war." economist.com/finance-and-ec…

If you haven’t seen The ⁦@Watchmenmusic⁩ live, it’s a must! It’s not often a band sounds better live than on cd, but they pull it off every single time. Amazing, pure Canadian talent! What a night!

It’s absolutely hilarious - that the people (NDP) so angry at the wealthy, elected someone who owns not one but 2 homes. One located in a wealthy part of Vancouver to add to the irony.

No Canadian flag. But a flag of a non existent state that is the raison d’être of banned terror groups like Hamas. But they regard Canada as an “illegitimate settler state” characterized by white supremacy and genocide. Tommy Douglas must be rolling over in his grave.

Of course there’s a Palestinian flag waving on stage. It’s Avi’s NDP now.

Oilers Jack Roslovic has been an absolute steal for Edmonton at just $1.5 million this season. 20 goals and 12 assists in 61 games. But since it’s a positive story for the Oilers, you won’t hear much about it on X, podcasts, or sports media. Sssshhh 🤫

I'm a typical Canadian centrist. I think the Liberals sometimes have a good ideas, I think the Conservatives sometimes have good ideas. I think the New Democrats always have really bad ideas. #cdnpoli

The idea that housing prices simply need to come down to fix affordability misses the bigger picture. If you actually want homes people can afford, you have to look at the full cost stack, not just the final price. What about lowering personal taxes so families can qualify for homes in the first place? What about rethinking Net Zero mandates that add significant upfront cost without improving affordability? What about shrinking the layers of government that slow everything down? What about cutting red tape that delays projects and drives up prices? And yes, what about every level of government taking a hard look at the fees they add to each home? You cannot regulate your way to affordability while adding cost at every step. If we are serious about solving this, we need to stop pretending price is the problem and start fixing what is driving it.

The Alberta Rockies snowpack continues to grow... At this site in the headwaters of the Elbow River west of Calgary, we have more than double the snow water equivalent than we had last year at this time. It's also the second-largest snowpack since records began in the mid 80s.

Trump on Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince MBS today: “He didn’t think he would be kissing my ass. He really didn’t. And now he has to be nice to me. He better be nice to me.” This is how the President of the United States describes America’s most important Gulf ally. The same Saudi Arabia that: — Cut oil production by 6.7 million barrels — Whose energy infrastructure Iran threatened to destroy — Who the US needs to keep oil markets stable — Who Trump is asking to join the Iran war Diplomatic relationships are built over decades. Trump just described the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as someone kissing his body parts — on camera — while asking him for military cooperation. France got an 8 out of 10. Japan got Pearl Harbor. Saudi Arabia got this. The isolation of America is not just a policy failure. It is a daily practice.

If the approval of the Keystone pipeline south to the U.S., BEFORE a pipeline to the West and to Asia like the TMX, doesn't prove to you the 'Elbows Up' Anti-U.S. rhetoric was just vapid and cynical electioneering, nothing will.
