@McSmurray @BoringBiz_ Well look we both agree most of ‘high intensity’ white collar work is pretending to look busy most of the time so that you are available to get stuff done when it’s crunch time We disagree that that constitutes a ‘sacrifice’ Bullshitting on twitter is fun!

Currently around that level of TC and here is my honest advice > any job that lets you make that much will absolutely expect you to sacrifice every last minute of your day to generate value for the company. Unless you are okay with that, don’t sign up for it > as you approach this level of comp, the golden handcuffs start to become very real. Your pay starts to get less weighted towards cash and more towards stock, RSUs, bonuses etc. If money is your motive, you will remain on the treadmill forever > it is more luck than you might think. A lot of people making this amount are not geniuses by any means. They know how to work really hard, and got lucky along the way. That might be landing the right interview at the right time, picking up a skill that turned out to be valuable, or just knowing the right person > sales. if you want to learn one skill, it is sales. every job that pays you this much ultimately transforms into a sales job. Learn to be personable and know how to sell, and you will never spend a day hungry

How does a sensitive young man like me maneuver my way into 500k TC by 30... Does anyone have any methods...

@McSmurray @BoringBiz_ You are listing the things you can’t do, but the list of things you can do is much longer - read a book - garden - have a conversation with a loved one - go to gym - play an instrument To name just a few

@RobertHarrisonv @BoringBiz_ Yes. The entire time you are on call is time that is not yours. You can't drink, can't expect to complete a movie, can't schedule a date, can't drive your kid to their soccer game.

@McSmurray @BoringBiz_ Let’s say a surgical doctor is always on call to perform an emergency surgery. Does that mean the doctor sacrifices every minute of their day?

@RobertHarrisonv @BoringBiz_ OP does not literally mean you are typing for 16 hours a day, you're conflating the difference between demanding availability every minute and being active every minute. I am available from 5am to 10pm 6 days a week, that's "every minute" of my time even if I can go to the Zoo.

@cocascola @jeremie0117 So if software has low cost margins and high profit margins, do you see how it doesn’t make sense to say cost margins = gross margins?

@RobertHarrisonv @jeremie0117 For software, extremely low. Their gross margins (marginal cost + sales commission) are usually 75%+. For hardware, their marginal cost is quite high. Ex - Dell operates at 18% margins. After sales commissions, and every $1 sold prob turns into $0.13 or so.

Citadel: ''Unlike traditional software, where the marginal cost of serving an additional user is close to zero, AI carries a meaningful and ongoing compute cost. The economics therefore depend not simply on what the technology can do, but on whether the productivity generated is sufficient to justify the resources required to deliver it.''

@BoringBiz_ @RobertHarrisonv They don't understand that you can post for 8 hours a day on Twitter and still work a 16 hour day. Twitter is the only thing you can do in the 4-8 minute bursts of free time that punctuate every 10 minutes of your day.

@cocascola @jeremie0117 Think about it this way: What is the marginal cost of adding a consumer to a software service? What is the gross margin of that software service provider?

@RobertHarrisonv @jeremie0117 Well gross margins = marginal cost. as a business, if your COGS goes down but your revenue declines commensurately, you're running to stand still

@RobertHarrisonv @jeremie0117 Hardware gross margins have not improved meaningfully. The end-consumer cost has but that does not mean it's become a better economic model over time as a business.

investing in public markets feel increasingly toxic/untenable unless you are at a pod and can manage factor risk understand why people allocate to privates where valuations are high but you get up-rounds - price action terrible ex semis and random zero revenue retail themes and now bad in semis - lots of charts below 200d, great earnings faded - very low valuations for lots of names yet no bid/support at any range - crazy volatility/swings on narrative, often intra-day - everything is macro/factor/basket and co-specific fundamentals just don't matter much
