My dad sold the house I grew up in back in 1999. It's 60 years old, 2,500 SF, on a third of an acre on Long Island NY. If he owned it today the property taxes would be about $2,600. Not bad right? The problem is that's per month not per year. Yup, 33K a year in property taxes!

The way to fund NYCHA repairs is to demolish every one of these deteriorating mid-20th-century housing complexes and replace them with a new mixed-income development with 3x as many units. 1/3 will be replacement BMR units, and 2/3 will be market-rate.

@SheikhNYCFC @SukritGanesh There's usually plenty of room to build new buildings on these lots before tearing old ones down - one of the few bright spots of having massive parking lots for people that theoretically shouldn't own cars in NYC. People are already displaced b/c these buildings are bad

🚨 BREAKING: Merely days after Griffin's spat with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Ken Griffin announces they are scrapping the planned hotel portion of their new Miami HQ and are replacing it with even more office space. The tower was previously planned to feature a luxury hotel across 17 floors (42 to 58). That space will now be replaced by office, substantially expanding the total amount of office space in the tower. Whether this was pre planned or a consequence of the Mamdani video is unclear, but the timing is extremely interesting!
