Things that I’ve seen since arriving in Belgium c. two hours ago: -A lorry on fire at the side of the road -A bloke wandering round a public toilet with his trousers and underwear round his ankles -The rocket from Tin-Tin

Free parking, even for drop off, has huge social costs. Charging almost triple for staying longer than 15 minutes incentivises one to be quick when dropping people off, meaning more people can be dropped off and you don’t miss your flight stuck in a traffic jam
Prem Sikka@premnsikka

London Stansted Airport drop-off price rises from £7 to £10; £28 for 15-30 minutes. Greedy owners portray it as an environment friendly move. Public transport isn't always possible. It is about higher profits. No regulator will side with customers. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@ForfarshireUK I don't think 1800 was too late. Even as late as 1879 I think the Union was still salvageable.

@HarryDibbs_ Yeah for sure home rule (more representation in Westminster makes this inevitable imo) but that was the first step to independence for the dominions too, I can’t see Ireland staying in the UK in the long run

@SimpGanassi I don't know if it would have ended in independence without the diaspora to provide a safe exile for radicals tbh. Home Rule would have seemed to me more likely. First minister Parnell etc

@HarryDibbs_ I think the independence ship had long since set sail by then tbh, and a bigger population would be a much higher threat if it came to a civil war, as well as weakening the influence of Ulster

Also, Stansted has by far the cheapest parking of any London airport, even after these hikes its far less than Heathrow or Gatwick

Nick is home for a bit
used to go to the bathroom all the time without a phone before smartphones came around, and yet it now feels like it's an almost insurmountable task

Nick is home for a bit
it is quite funny how going to the bathroom and finding out I've forgotten my phone feels so strange... as if I'm missing something absolutely *essential* to what I'm doing in there
