Papermark grew 18% in June. Getting closer to $1M ARR, new goal end of summer 💸+18% - MRR growth (-30%) 😢 $1k - tools expenses 😢 $13k - salaries 😢$5k - marketing experiments 🔺 100k - doc links shared (+ 1%) 😭 9% - gross churn rate (-31% from May) Plans: We are testing 5 new marketing channels in the next 6 months to see if this gonna bring some new changes, as main source of traffic still SEO, Google and second is the viral loops and recommendations via product itself. What we implemented: 1. Updates to trials 2. New advanced features for higher plans 3. Content related to our competitors 4. Improvements in onboarding and conversions: Core observations: 1. MRR growth in % is slowing down And probably it is ok, as the overall amount of customers growing, and this number depends on the overall volume. 2. June is a slow month We did not notice it in revenue, by closing couple of bigger deals but definitely in activity inside the product. 3. Reasons to churn 🤷‍♀️ People still churn, and after we removed "it is too expensive" option, 90% reply they "don't use service enough" It is still very vague response. 4. Subscriber churn decreases My overall observation, that we still significantly improved churn by fixing value and pricing. From 14% on gross churn to 9%. Plus seems like people more reluctant on churn in summer somehow, busy on vacation. 5. Expansion & Reactivation We have a seat based pricing and we added it inside that anyone can add user easily, 1 or 10 it does not matter and pay per user. First there were no significant change. But now it is 30% of revenue growth. Which influence on net churn also, making it super low 6. FX adjustment Our pricing is still in Euro, which we have a plan to switch from, as most users used to dollar and dont get it. With current situation we get beneficial adjustment on euro dollar. Main goals for July: 1. Increase amount of shared and viewed documents via Papermark. 2. Increase the traffic to website and pages 3. Increase monthly active users 4. Focus on trial and conversion improvement 5. Implement the base for new marketing channels.

@mbertulli Smart wedge. What's the 1% case where you'd raise? We bootstrapped StockAlert.pro to $X MRR before considering any outside capital.

I'm 44. I've bootstrapped a company, raised $50M+, sold to PE, and now own manufacturing facilities across North America. If I was 25 again building my first brand, here's what I'd tell myself. 1. Bootstrap. 99% of the time. Don't raise money. Bootstrap all day every day in consumer. There's rarely an instance where you should raise outside capital. Most of my pain over the last eight years running this business has been because I have investors. I would never do that again knowing what I know now. 2. Competing incentives will break you. There's so much brain damage running a company when you have other people involved. Founders and investors can very easily have competing incentives and interests. You think you're aligned, but over time they become disjointed. They have their own set of incentives that you hope are aligned with yours. Often they're not. 3. The 1% exception. The only time raising makes sense is when you need heavy capex. Building factories. Deep R&D like Lomi where research and development is super cash intensive. That's why we did it. Otherwise, the downside to raising money in consumer is much higher than the upside. 4. The hard part of bootstrapping. The downside to bootstrapping in consumer is cash/working capital sucks. Even if your business is profitable, a lot of your growth gets financed from cash flows. You don't make a lot of money personally because so much gets cycled back into inventory and working capital. Consumer is not a great place for outside capital. There are very few cases where it makes sense. Build lean. Stay in control. Go for positive cash flows over everything else.

@NotA_Bull DIS is 20% off its 52W high while NFLX is 31% off. NFLX is above its 50-day MA, DIS is below. NFLX has more momentum, but DIS has a bigger gap to close to its 200-day MA. Which catalyst are you betting on?
