🇵🇸🇮🇱 Sixty countries and eight international organisations gathered today at the Egmont Palace in Brussels for the 9th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. Belgium hosted the meeting organized by the European Union and co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and Norway. The Alliance was launched in September 2024 on the margins of the UN General Assembly. Since then, it met in New York, Riyadh, Dublin, and twice here in Brussels. This growing momentum matters. The two-states solution is not a dream for idealists. It is the only realistic destination. For Israelis, who deserve security. For Palestinians, who deserve sovereignty. For a region that deserves stability. While other crises dominate headlines, we refuse to let the Israeli-Palestinian question disappear from the international agenda. Two states, living side by side in peace and security, is the only path that leads somewhere. Everything else risks leading to permanent conflict. @BelgiumMFA

Peace and stability in the Middle East are a priority for the EU, working closely with our key partners in the region such as Jordan. In that spirit, it is always a pleasure to count on the wisdom of the @KingAbdullahII . In our call today, I reiterated that the EU stands by its partners in these challenging times and supports all ongoing diplomatic efforts. The full and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz remains a priority. We remain gravely concerned by the situation in Lebanon. The EU will continue to support the authorities to disarm Hezbollah, as the only way to restore Lebanon’s stability. We stand ready to support the country with humanitarian aid and reconstruction. The situation in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, remains high on our mind too. EU leaders will be exchanging with partners on the situation in the Middle East at the informal meeting in Cyprus later this week.

I strongly condemn Saturday’s attack on @UNIFIL_ during which one French peacekeeper was killed & another three were injured. I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends & colleagues of the fallen peacekeeper, and wish a full & fast recovery to the injured peacekeepers. This is the third incident in recent weeks to have resulted in the deaths of peacekeepers serving in Lebanon. These attacks must stop. All actors must respect the cessation of hostilities & the ceasefire.

Dit was niet verschillend in vorige regeringen. Willen we echt dat ons land een andere richting uitgaat dan hebben we nood aan een nieuwe en betere mix. Restoring full and permanent freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is an urgent, shared priority. At the VTC convened by @EmmanuelMacron and @Keir_Starmer, I stressed the EU’s role: • Share satellite data via @EMSA_EU • Reinforce Operation Aspides • Work closely with Middle East and Gulf partners to strengthen our partnerships. Including on connectivity, which can take the stress out of the Strait.

Onze privacy wordt stap voor stap ontmanteld, tot er straks niets meer van overblijft. Hoofdstuk 634: om online te mogen gaan, wil de EU-Commissie dat we onze identiteitskaart uploaden en gevoelige data delen. Alles netjes gecentraliseerd in Brussel… uiteraard zogezegd “voor onze veiligheid”. Alleen is intussen al gebleken dat die data niet eens veilig wordt bewaard. Kopieën van ID’s die gewoon op het internet rondzwerven. Sterk systeem… not. En dat allemaal zogezegd “om onze kinderen te beschermen”. In realiteit: nul effect. Elke tiener met een VPN omzeilt moeiteloos de “virtuele slagboom”. De ‘kwetsbare doelgroep’ blijft dus buiten schot, terwijl de rest van de bevolking zijn identiteit zal moeten afgeven en vlotjes aan een digitale leiband wordt gelegd. Net zoals bij de QR-covidpas, die vanop afstand aan- en uitgezet werd, en bepaalde of je wel of niet “mocht deelnemen aan het maatschappelijk leven”. Exact hetzelfde principe: gecentraliseerde controle, verpakt als “bescherming”. Aangestuurd door ambtenaren en algoritmes, ergens in Brussel of Straatsburg. Maximale dataverzameling en controle, minimale meerwaarde en vrijheid. En toch blijft een deel van de bevolking geloven dat méér controle en méér macht voor overheden ons zullen vooruithelpen, puur gevoed door een mix van angst en blind vertrouwen. Zeer naïef. Altijd hetzelfde refrein: “voor uw en mijn veiligheid” of deze keer: “voor de kinderen”. Ik onthou in elk geval vooral dat vrijheden die door overheden worden afgenomen, zelden -eigenlijk nooit- vrijwillig of spontaan terugkomen. Ik ken er alvast geen enkel voorbeeld van. Wie hier zonder nadenken slaafs of zelfs onbegrijpelijk enthousiast in meegaat, trekt die digitale leiband alleen maar strakker rond zijn eigen nek. P.S. er zijn landen waar VPN’s verboden zijn, wordt dat hier de volgende stap wanneer volgens de EU “teveel mensen via VPN gaan surfen”?
