Parental satisfaction with their child's actual school reached its low point in 2013, which was also the year that NAEP scores peaked. Things have gotten worse since then, and people seem somewhat happier with the worse results.

Schools can’t continue to operate on the customer service model unless we realize that much of the behavior teachers see in the classroom day to day would get someone kicked out of any respectable establishment.
Everywhere you go, there are rules. Lack of enforcement in any space leads to chaos.

@UltraRunnerPod @Lizefb Is there some other rec sport whose mechanisms are quite different from her primary sport, that she can play mostly for fun, while not 'resting,' per se?
(Thinking of activities like pickleball - if tennis isn't primary - or ultimate frisbee, as just two examples ...)

@UltraRunnerPod That's a tough one. Find other interests in the meantime and make connections. Try new things. Rest. I don't know. It's complicated. I'm sorry you're all going through it. I wish I had more answers. Maybe look at Magical Running by Bobby McGee or Melody Fairchild's website.

@UltraRunnerPod Ugh. That’s so hard. Part of my burnout was the pressure of competing and possible failure. I found that love again in college when I ran for fun with zero pressure. Signed up for a half, and again, no pressure but to finish.

We’ve fought for more than a decade to bring back 8th grade algebra for kids who are ready & interested. We’re finally on the verge, but the school district’s new proposal creates a significant barrier — requiring kids who want to take algebra in 8th grade to also take regular 8th grade math.
Kids shouldn’t be required to take two math classes, which will simply force them to give up an elective. The district should avoid this barrier & let 8th graders choose to take algebra as their sole math class.

The main thing I take from this is that at least 80 human rights groups don't know that a) biology matters in sport, and b) women have (sex-based) rights in sport. One group's 'reversal' is another's progress, though. Once you recognize a) and b), eligibility checks are essential

🚨 The Olympics Committee is reportedly planning to ban transgender and intersex athletes from women's events completely. They'd also make all female athletes undergo genetic sex testing to compete. This is a huge reversal since they dropped universal sex testing after the 1996 Olympics and have avoided blanket transgender rules for years. The recommendations are expected sometime in the first half of 2026. Over 80 human rights groups are calling it a "catastrophic erosion of women's rights" and pushing back hard. Source: Reuters
