Conservatives typically do not understand even the content of liberal positions. Haidt's book is completely obsolete and irrelevant because the right has been captured by the bullshit factory. Conversely, Haidt is not correct either about liberals lacking a theory of mind. Rather, liberals' are more morally inflexible and can't square conservative moral inconsistency.

2019's More in Common survey showed Democrats and Republicans being roughly equally bad at understanding the other side. Anecdotally, my progressive friends are pretty clueless about Republicans, but the conservatives I meet on Twitter have a cartoon understanding of Democrats.

You can have the restrictive blue state governance you get in California or Illinois or you can have the permissive economic environment of Florida or Texas.
