Today, I’m delighted to share I formally begin my exciting new role as Director of the Cell and Gene Catalyst, a joint venture of two peak industry bodies - @AusBiotech and @MedicinesAus I am proud to lead this initiative in collaboration with an Expert Advisory Group of industry leaders from @CellTherapies_ @Novartis @Pfizer @TIA_Aust and @CSL. The Catalyst will engage and collaborate with the sector to ensure everyone in Australia has ready access to world-class treatments such as cancer immunotherapies, cell and gene therapies and gene-editing therapeutics. As an industry-led initiative, the Catalyst will strengthen the cell and gene therapy ecosystem nationally, with an emphasis on growing our capabilities across the entire value chain. The Catalyst will focus on accelerating the development, translation, commercialisation and manufacturing of cell and gene therapies in Australia. This will position us as a leader on the international stage, boosting our health and economy. Through industry-led education and training, the Catalyst will also enable the creation of new jobs in this rapidly expanding industry for Australia’s diverse, skilled #STEM workforce. As Director, I am excited to apply my experience and expertise in cell and gene therapies, public policy and advocacy, and STEM workforce capacity-building. I aim to facilitate connections, opportunities and growth of Australia’s dynamic and vibrant advanced therapeutics sector. On a personal note, it is immensely rewarding for me to return to the health sector and enhance the field to which I devoted more than 15 years of my research career. This fits with my ‘why’. As a sector we all work together to help people living debilitating disease. I am delighted to join the dynamic AusBiotech team at our beautiful office on Collins Street in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Be sure to stop by and hear our latest.
