Today, I had the honour of speaking to the 47 countries that comprise the @UN #HumanRightsCouncil urging the immediate release of my father @imrankhanpti and all #Pakistan’s #politicalprisoners. Along with this, I want to be very clear. Like my father, I fully support maintaining GSP+ as the people of #Pakistan should never be punished for the actions of its leaders. My sons Sulaiman & @kasim_khan_1999 applied for visas in January (again… ) to allow them to visit their father @ImranKhanPTI in Pakistan. The Pakistan consulate states that online visa processing normally takes 7–10 working days. It has now been 60 days. This despite the public promise that they could safely travel there to see their father after 4 years, made by both Defence Minister @khawajaMAsif to @mehdirhasan & PM spokesperson @mosharrafzaidi to @SkyYaldaHakim Meanwhile, they are not allowed to speak to him on the phone, nor send him a letter. They haven’t seen him since 2022 after he was shot in an assassination attempt. This is an appeal directly to Pakisan’s PM @CMShehbaz to please allow Imran Khan’s two sons to see their father asap, particularly since, by all accounts, his health is in decline.

#WhatAreTheyHiding From the news, we found out that Imran Khan was taken to PIMS again in the middle of the night, supposedly for his second injection in the eye. When the law requires that family be informed before any medical procedure is conducted on a prisoner, why was the family not informed? We do not trust the diagnosis or test reports from Government medical facilities. There are already reports coming from PIMS that the doctors are being threatened with serious consequences if any information is leaked about Imran Khan. What are they Hiding? Our family rejects their reports even if they issue these doctored reports to the public. We stand by our demand that Imran Khan be examined and treated in Shifa International (Islamabad) by specialists, under the supervision of Imran Khan’s personal doctors and in the presence of his family. PIMS (Govt Hospital) is not equipped to treat anyone for the alleged condition that has developed in Imran Khan’s eye. Why today’s decision on military trials of civilians is a big shame! 👇🏻 · Trials of civilians in military courts violate Pakistan’s obligations under International human rights law. · Article 175(3) of the Constitution clearly lays down (separation of power principle) that judiciary shall be separated from executive. So a trial of civilian which is presided by army officer (employee of ministry of defence and part of Executive) as judge is in violation of Art 175(3). Executive is investigating, prosecuting and judging the guilt of the accused. · Article 10 A of the Constitution which guarantees right to fair trial also stands violated if guilt of accused in determined by an officer belonging to executive branch of state. · Article 9 of the Constitution which guarantees right of access to justice stands violated if guilt of accused in determined by an officer belonging to executive branch of state. Access to independent judiciary is part of right of access to justice. · On 27.06.2023, Attorney General gave undertaking in Supreme Court that no accused in military custody will be sentenced for lengthy imprisonments. Anything above 3 years imprisonment is lengthy. Undertaking of AG stands violated. · From DAY 1 , PTI demands independent high powered judicial commission for 9th May۔ · Forced Custodial Confessions of convicted individuals have no legal value. They were taken in custody. Infact, they further establish that the trial conducted in sham trial where no procedure safeguard was adopted. Making mockery of the justice system. · The trials were conducted In-camera. This negates concept of open trial as envisaged in Art 9 of the Constitution. No civilian can be denied an open trial. · Military Courts don’t follow Law of Evidence (Qanun-e-Shahadat). Without adhering to law of evidence, a trial cannot be conducted in fair manner · Military Courts trial had 100 percent conviction rate; this hasn’t happened in any legal system around the world. #MilitaryCourtsViolateRights

Things every Pakistani should be united against: - Indian Aggression - 26th Amendment - Canals on the Indus - Enforced Disappearances - Military Courts - Active role of military in governance We don't have to see everything in black and white. It is not about whether you are with the Army or against it. We support the army to do its lawful job to protect our borders. Every soldier fighting on the frontline is our pride but it does not give military top brass the license to shape the country and our collective freedoms in their perverse vision. We must vehemently oppose any policy and decision whether by the Govt, Supreme Court or the Military which compromises our freedoms and jeapordizes our future. We are a polity of 240 million people with collective and individual aspirations, we are not cattle who can be herded by self styled Shepard's in whichever direction they deem fit.
