@Alan__Shatter Empty words. You call for a legal resolution from Israel. They couldn't even prosecute IDF members who raped a prisoner that was caught on video. They fail to hand over their leader who has an international arrest warrant. Also, they are Israeli terrorists, not extremists.

@mccuejury Gerry Adams once again showed his strength as a peacemaker. Offering the 'hands down' settlement to prevent the claimants being ruined financially. All in face of adversity given the frivolous nature of the case brought and the lack of evidence produced.

This is how the Irish national broadcaster reports on an Islamic terrorist organisation likely linked to Iran targeting Jewish institutions and people with explosives across the world. And then people wonder why Ireland is seen as antisemitic.

@BelTel Old allegations were from TV presenters, interviewers and politicians. The main ground rule for court is evidence, where none has yet to materialise. It's the same old allegations presented by RUC and Army personnel and anyone who has an axe to grind with SF.

Witness Tim Hanley (ex RUC): "IRA is like the Mafia; you never really leave it." “He (Adams ) led the IRA throughout the whole of the Troubles from the early 1970s. I don’t dismiss that he took the IRA towards a peaceful resolution, but he also directed IRA terrorism which resulted in the deaths of many people.”

@joeywheelerT4 @Javoudria How many of the named former IRA members have / had an axe to grind with SF? How many of the named former IRA members are witnesses in the trial? It's one thing to say he was in the Ra, it's completely different to prove it, even with the low bar of balance of probability.

The desperate Iranian regime is firing enormous cluster bombs at Israeli civilians, in a double and deliberate war crime. Two civilians were killed today. Oddly enough, many media orgs around the world seem to overlook this. My conversation with @connellmcshane on @NewsNation earlier. tks @AriellaNoveck

@gra_dEirinn 1) Hearsay of former disgruntled comrades who had fallen out with SF. 2) Hearsay of British Agent. 3) Guilt by association due to family links. Even with the low bar for civil courts (balance of probability), it's hardly best evidence.

So let’s review the situation. Multiple former IRA members including Brendan Hughes, Dolours Price, Ivor Bell, Seán Mac Stíofáin and Sean O’Callaghan all said that Gerry Adams held a leadership role in the Provisional IRA. Meanwhile, his father had been an IRA member. His grandfather was involved in the Irish Republican Brotherhood. And his great-grandfather was also linked to the IRB. But obviously all of that is just unreliable hearsay and Adams spent the entire conflict as Ireland’s most unlucky bystander.
The Spectator@spectator

Picture Gerry Adams in a dimly lit courtroom, one hand raised in statesmanlike denial, the other twitching like Dr. Strangelove’s infamous Nazi salute, struggling to contain the contradictions of his many roles. Peacemaker? Politician? Bearded bard? Or something darker, as my late father always insisted: the architect of republican violence, a figurehead for the IRA and Sinn Féin, like ‘two cheeks of the same arse’, to borrow George Galloway’s colourful phrase? Adams has always denied involvement with the IRA. ✍️ Rory Hanrahan Article | spectator.com/article/will-g…

This is the scene at Ben Gurion Airport right now. Why is the US positioning tankers off Tel Aviv and the USS Ford off the coast of Haifa? To send a message to Iran: “If you try to pre-empt our attack by unloading on Israel, you won’t just be attacking Israel—you’ll be attacking the US too, and that will precipitate your demise.” The point is to keep Iran pinned down by inaction until it’s too late for them. Remember: the core part of any attack on Iran is to trash their offensive missile capabilities within the first hours. Unless Iran strikes first, most of their arsenal will be destroyed on the ground. And unless they’re able to fire their missiles in massive volleys, very few (±10%) get through the multilayered air defence. So unless they shoot first, things go badly for them. However, if they shoot first and hit something American, they’re totally doomed. That’s why the Gerald R. Ford is near Haifa and those tanker aircraft are in Tel Aviv: to paralyse their decision-making.

@Louis_Loughlin @reptracker The coaches will get paid regardless of the players they coach. The CAS has ruled the process for switching is acceptable so cannot see the basis for compensation.

There’s been a lot of noise over the last few days since Chris Atherton’s switch from Northern Ireland to Ireland became public. Plenty of opinions - that’s fine. But what’s not fine is the misinformation and outright lies being thrown around. One of the biggest claims doing the rounds is that it’s a “disgrace” he attended the JD Academy, cost the IFA thousands, and then switched. The truth? Chris Atherton never attended the JD Academy. He was offered the opportunity and turned it down. What people also conveniently forget is that Chris was involved in the FAI system before he was ever capped by Northern Ireland. At Under-14 level, he attended the FAI National Academy in Dublin. He loved it. Loved the environment. Loved the coaching. Loved the set-up. He was in Ireland’s pathway first. The reason he didn’t continue at that stage came down to logistics. He was heavily involved with Glenavon’s first team at a very young age, and the travel simply didn’t make sense. After conversations, including persuasion from Andy Waterworth at Glenavon - he gave Northern Ireland a chance. And to be fair, he embraced it. He represented them at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level and gave everything while he was there. But the idea that Ireland came out of nowhere simply isn’t true. It was always in the background. The fact he had already been in the FAI system, and the fact he turned down the JD Academy opportunity, shows exactly where his thinking was at. On the Chelsea situation - context matters here too. Chris agreed to sign for Chelsea 18 months before he officially joined. The Head of Academy at the time was Jim Fraser, a long-standing figure at the club and the structure presented to him was very different to what exists now. Neil Bath, another hugely influential figure in the academy set-up, also left during the overhaul. Since then, Chelsea’s academy has undergone a major restructure. The ownership change brought in a new model, heavily influenced by Kinetic Academy, with different personnel, different recruitment priorities and a different direction. When new leadership comes in, they naturally bring in their own coaches and their own players. That inevitably leaves players who signed under the previous regime in a more uncertain position. Chris hasn’t received the Under-18 minutes many feel he deserved this season but context explains a lot of that. It hasn’t just affected him. A number of players brought in under the previous academy structure have found themselves in similar situations. The key point? He remains very highly rated. In England. In Ireland. And beyond. This summer will likely be an important one. Chelsea can outline a clear pathway and long-term plan or if not, there will be no shortage of strong academies ready to move. Strip away the politics and the online drama and you’re left with this: A young player that just wants to play for his country.

@SpiritOf2016Pod @Gilesy460 I reckon it's a greater achievement considering the higher population. To make it into a squad from a larger selection of players. Disappointed not to make more tournaments but certainly wouldn't say it's an embarrassment.

Today, anti-Israel extremists protested a conference at Google Ireland (both outside and inside the building) simply because Israelis are attending event. As you can see, this ‘protest’ includes a picture of Hitler. So we have a situation now where Irish people are shoving pictures of Hitler in the faces of Israeli Jews under the guise of social justice. Things are simply out of control in this country. If this is the reaction to Israelis attending a random tech conference, what is the reaction going to be to the Israeli national soccer team?

@lezi55309153 @Trad_West_Art @DailyMail No. However An Gorta Mór (The Great Hunger) was easily avoidable had Britain not exported livestock which would have fed the starving Irish. So, it could be argued the British had the goal of exterminating the Irish people.

@BenGreenJeru What's Israel's stance on Iran playing at the World Cup? Didn't Israeli sportsmen and women compete in Qatar? Think athletics 2019 and Judo 2021. You are misappropriating an anti genocide stance with racism. We've seen such tactics before with anti semitism.

@RobbieButlerMLA Bizarre. How could anyone tell you were Protestants? I take it the driver didn't duck, so if they were Protestant surely the IRA would have "got yas" 🤔 There was an alternative route that was safer. Strange decision to go through Republican controlled areas.

When I visited my grandparents in Springmartin West Belfast in the late 70s, 80s and even early 90s we were told to lie or duck down in the back of the car as we drove through Republican controlled areas incase the IRA "got us". Our crime was being Protestants driving to see our family. Thankfully the Belfast Agreement came, the principle of consent was established and the surrender of those committed to violence was won. I'm glad Lola didn't have to grow up with what my family and I did.
