That is 100% what I was told by those in upper management as it was going on, not 24 years later when memories fade and such. Also, they had a $75 million offer to buy when losses were starting that they turned down because they specifically wanted didn't want to sell. It was the huge losses that opened up talks to sell. And even when selling they at first told Vince McMahon that if they sold you had to provide us with television because they wanted to keep the TV until Feb. 2001 when Kellner was hired. So the idea they wanted out prior to Feb. 2001 is contradicted by everything they said and their actions.

It's so funny because this is a story that literally stemmed from a tweet where somebody asked, months later, why did ESPN stop doing the letter grades. I wrote that I didn't know, full well knowing that the answer was obvious, and multiple people within hours made sure I knew the answer was exactly what I thought. The entire pro wrestling media, including me should have done this months ago, and the fact we didn't is a black mark on all of us.
