Get Fuel under GST.... opposition will start crying immediately. Right now tax on fuel goes to the states. It is all ad valorem. Higher the price...higher the state's revenues.
If fuel is moved to 28% GST.... the prices would fall. In most places Excise Duty (centre) plus VAT (State) is higher.
Many states depend on VAT on fuel for revenue. Explains why even states like WB under TMC, TN under DMK or KA under Congress dont make noise about fuel price.
ATF too. Infact ATF under GST will help airlines get credit of taxes which they are losing today.

I do not believe in doomsday scenario.
But we are like frogs in the water which is slowly but surely boiling.
Globally bond yields are conveying something very negative.
If global supply chains break, inflation hits the roof and interest rates go up steeply - how can equities perform well?
My equity allocation is intact. Not planning to make any changes.
This global crisis may have different impact on different markets and industries.
How Indian markets would do and which companies may do well is something beyond my ability to foresee.
As on today, I'm just confused.

ED used as an acquisition tool for Gautam Adani?
1. Ahmed A.R. Buhari, promoter of Coastal Energen, faces investigation and is jailed in an ED-linked money laundering case.
2. He spends around 32 months in prison while legal proceedings continue. Years pass, his reputation is damaged, and his business comes under stress.
3. Coastal Energen enters insolvency proceedings. Control of the company shifts through the corporate resolution process, with an Adani Power-led consortium later involved in acquiring assets.
4. Courts subsequently quash related proceedings after the underlying case collapses. Buhari walks out of jail.
5. Final outcome: a man loses years in prison, loses his company, and is later freed.
India is not a free and fair market. The Modi government is using every trick to help Adani through government machinery.

The US waiver that “allowed” Modi Ji’s government to buy Russian oil “not even at a discounted rate” expired on May 16. There are reports that the government has dutifully "applied for a waiver extension” with its big bosses in the USA but the MEA is yet to confirm any such report. In the absence of any clarity on the matter, is it safe to assume that for the nth time this year Modi ji and his brilliant cabinet is clueless on the matters of macroeconomics, diplomacy, and energy security? And should Indians now brace themselves for yet another fuel price hike while the government perfects the art of hollow chest-thumping?

My colleague and I asked questions tonight both on why we should trust India given the human violations rights, and also about the visit.
