I’ve always believed that piracy has never been about price. It’s a response to bad UX. We just need to look at how music consumption evolved over the years to see the pattern Music piracy used to be huge back in the early 2000’s, but with the rise of music streaming, it naturally fell off. Why would I want to download 100 songs when I can pay Spotify 900 and access every song ever made? Imagine if you could only access Wizkid’s on Spotify, Burna Boy on Apple Music and Davido on YouTube music? It makes sense to just download it offline and listen. Same thing with movies. Netflix when it launched, reduced movie piracy drastically. It is the fragmentation across multiple services that ultimately brought it back. Anywhere piracy is high, it is usually because there is no easy way to access the content being pirated

@JourneymenDev @Justin_Neagle Pointing out the mega-corp only cares about money doesn't make you smart. Pretty much every company ultimately only cares about money and you won't be able to change that. If someone kept pointing out they'll die eventually they'll still be 'miserable' despite it being true.

@WestAnd90458 @boreddeleuzian A lot of my social training has been to figure out that normal people are often petty, two-faced, cowardly, immoral, cruel, prone to grudges, and with intensely fragile egos. The moment I make the mistake of respecting or admiring one, I will "miss social cues".

It's a very basic non-predator business model. They offer unlimited FREE access to their service with ads. If you don't want ads, you can pay to have them removed. It's a business providing FREE hosting and FREE access. They have to pay for that AND MAKE MONEY somehow.

@metro85 @voidyfrown Nowhere did I say that any game dev is infallible, my favorite games have blatant mistakes happen in them as well, but Riftbound is making the same mistakes those other devs have already learned from when the industry is extremely competitive right now. They need to do better.

Riftbound has been a case study on how poorly a company that has all the money in the world and 30+ years of TCG sales and R&D to build off of can completely and entirely drop the ball because seemingly not one person who worked on it has purchased and played any card game ever.

ATLA even implies that lightning generation was a secret guarded by the Royal family and as such is probably not actually that rare.
