Somehow has 'everything and the kitchen sink' approach to this. A lot of busyness and granularity hoping that at least one part of it sticks. Prob this will get used as a try out and like most of the million other productivity apps - return use rate will dive because it gives the feeling of too much incoming . . .

here's my two cents on this as a random gen z kid first impression: i only wanna see this sort of font when i open duolingo or candy crush, not 24/7 when im on my phone. feels too silly. when you're taking a swing so big as to change the entire default ux of an iphone, you need mass consumer adoption to win and can't get away with just being a prosumer tool so, here's my thoughts on every single proposed feature as it relates to me: - reading list: i read maybe 2 books a year, which is 2 more than 99% of my friends. - personalized weather: i rarely open the weather app bc i don't care that much and would never even opt for a "weather app widget" much less a daily notification about it on my home screen - drafts email replies: before starting company, i literally had ~zero use for my email, much less drafting emails of my own. i consistently wonder how useful this will be to non-prosumers as a primary data source - prepares you for meetings & trips: think this is personally more nifty than necessary, but this potentially seems like a more useful feature. ie if im going to the beach and never bought sunscreen, would it try and remind me of that? feels too good to be true based on current llms, but that could be cool - suspicious charges: i feel this problem is completely solved for me with just an email from my bank. my cards never get stolen - reminders: i never use the reminder app because i am too lazy to type in a reminder and arrogantly assume that i can just remember to do the thing - tracks your health: i'm most interested to see this. a problem i have with all "AI" health apps is that i don't wanna see a dashboard + score + chatbot; i want something that actually gets me out of the door and taking steps or going to the gym, which is definitely doable with llm - one tap intel on wherever you are: my particular use case i got excited about is that i would personally love some sort of agent that proactively suggests events i or a girlfriend might find interesting. tickets just dropped for a rave of an artist someone im talking to likes? i would like to know + buy i am very interested to try it, this is exciting and more net new than 99% of consumer ai tech i've seen

Maybe a very obvious point, but it only just struck me that, so far at least, intelligence seems to require four valence electrons.

Chamath, what you're seeing are the internals of the upstream AI apparatus rife with biases, contradictions, limits, incompleteness/inconsistencies release these qualities as it naturally must into downstream outputs and actions. All the while, no sensing mechanism to self modulate to account for unintended consequences. Any adjustments that are made will continue to spring from the same source filled with these biases/contradictions/incompleteness that led to the problems in the first place. There is an understanding that has gone missing amidst the euphoria, and hype of the new class of utopians with most seeming to have a tech background. There is a different way but it takes genuine interest, a seriousness beyond wordplay . . .

If the leadership in the AI movement doesn’t step up quickly, organize around the right “go to market” and create incentives to align everyone, this will be a generational fumble. It is, sadly, happening before our eyes.

A Steve Jobs reality-field perspective: I know you're committed to the name Grok to represent your intelligence engine but the name does not sound intelligent. It has this monosyllabic grunt/phlegm quality to it, giving an inverse onomotopoeia effect to intelligence. It would be like naming your all-powerful AI model 'Spud' or 'Sparky' or even 'Rufus' - can you imagine how silly this would sound if actual . . . Your intelligence model deserves a fitting name beyond a one syllable cough and watch what happens to your adoption rate . . .

This is just shifting the 'complexity' to 'status' which continues to consume your most fleeting asset, time. Meanwhile, the actual movement of life passes by unnoticed, and you're left in a bounded enclosed field. It's quite sad that gaining fame and money are considered a proxy for living life wholly while they are actually low-hanging fruit of life, a filter test to see who falls for it and then become ensnared in the loop, never to unlock the next game level. Your brain can not understand what it is failing to realize beyond the trinkets. It is so vast, so deep, the unknown if front of each if only there is genuine deep care . . .

When your working life rewards you, it’s easy to ratchet up the complexity: homes, cars, travel, possessions etc. I have found that all that complexity comes at the sake of your most fleeting asset: your time. Instead of building things, all of a sudden you’re dealing with minutiae and logistics. Instead of talking mostly to engineers, you’re talking mostly to non-engineers. The building stops…the business of managing self inflicted complexity begins. It’s worth noting that the best players in the game (Buffett, Elon) have kept their life extremely basic, almost monastic/nomadic, as success ratcheted them ever higher. I think it’s the biggest secret hiding in plain sight: When the world upgrades your status, downgrade your complexity.

You know, beyond "communicating with the eyes", there is also the benefit of true sunlight exposure to the eyes and body for at least brief periods each day. Sunglasses, eyeglasses with lens coatings and even home windows that have blocking effects, really end up robbing the body of the harmonizing effects of sunlight, in measure at least . . .

Somehow there must be attention to efficiency as this reflects an ultimately stable infrastructure and allows for workers and their companies to give attention to developing that which is novel which then more totally harnesses the reportedly very long long hours worked. Having said that, the passion of the Japanese should be reference value for all!

I think the key point is whether it is done by force/quota mandates and punishable (by fines etc) if not adhered to. You have to wonder, at what point does forced diversity morph into fragmentation and splintering which then renders a society unstable. Seems like there should be a natural flow to mixing of groups where intelligence brings particular people together at just the right time producing the right outcome and all organically driven and not by artificial quotas or via hidden agendas of a group . . .
