As part of the pensions argument, some people keep referring to old people being wealthy due to the value of their home. It's irrelevant. I don't care whether my house is worth £500,000 or 50 quid. I live here, I'm staying here, I'll probably die here, so the money means nothing.

Ive owned 3 houses. I’m 45. I’ve observed all generations. Prospects for my kids are fucked. Yes it’s the government policies of the past thirty years but frankly the boomer attitude of "pull your socks up" ain’t going to cut it anymore. The entire system needs an overhaul
Cec Podd@CecPodd

@SirDanofC Maybe your property aspirations are higher than ours were? And, today's MW wage adjusted for inflation is t.w.i.c.e as much as l started on, £200 v £400. I do feel for today's young, l've 3 kids in their 20's, but is it a worse work environment than what l entered, late 70's?

Young people tend to spend more on transport, consumer goods, clothing, children, entertainment and holidays. Pensioners tend to spend more on tradesmen, healthcare, local goods and services, housing costs, gifts and energy. The idea that pension money is wasted, is facile. It funds the salaries and jobs of people who would otherwise be overlooked or in sectors that would be meaningfully smaller.
Benedict Spence@BenedictSpence

If pensioners want more money from younger taxpayers to fund their retirements, there’s a really easy way to make that happen: sell them your stuff.

I don’t want my taxpayer money going to NATO! It’s useless. Spain, England, France and Italy sold us out. Time to leave! Not another penny.

You can buy a nice little house like this in Suffolk with a 5% deposit of £6,000. Nationwide, Barclays and others are offering good deals for first time buyers with only a 5% deposit. But then you'd have to forego your gap year in the Far East and Antipodes or your fancy wedding. Poor you. Boo hoo. 🤣

@ManaByte light from a laser takes 3 seconds to reach to moon, a radio wave travels slower than light so a ship moving away from the earth isn`t capable of transmitting live in real time, and the further the ship goes from the earth the greater the problem will be until it returns.

@peterrhague @canadiancarol1 The pensioners didn't steal your car, the government did, and failed to make credible arrangements to hand you a new car at the appropriate time people should point their anger in the right place. Pensioners over 80 also didnt get a new car, and are making do on with a Trabant.

The anger against pensioners on here is enlightening .... envy, jealousy and greed with no perception as to who will pay for their old age - because it is all about the NOW and entitlement.

@ArchaeoAnni @NJM71 Those "older people" have been the dominant voting bloc since the late 1970s. It *is* their fault.

@NJM71 The triple lock needs revision, but young people will get old too. It's not fair to blame older people for the ills of society, not caused by them, but by government promises. We all get old.

This again. It's not the responsibility of younger generations to fund state pension benefits = to a "living wage" for retired people. Current pensioners didn't do it, nor did they fund a triple lock. Regardless, people can't expect others to fund 100% of their retirement.
Sensible Simon@simonwatt85

The National Living Wage is right now, £12.21 per hour. In a 35 hour week you will earn £427.35 so in a year it’s £22,222 Presumably they call it a living wage because that gives you enough to live on. A pensioner gets £10,000 less than that. Greedy blighters.
