"The UN was able to verify 31 cases of rape and sexual violence primarily in detention settings, but also at checkpoints and during military operations against 14 men, seven women, nine boys, and one girl from the Gaza Strip and the WestBank. This is part of a pattern of sexual violence against Palestinians, including as a form of torture. Violations consisted of rape, including rape with objects, gang rape, attempted rape, physical violence to the genitals, instances of targeted shooting of the genitals, touching of breast and genitals, strip and cavity searches conducted without apparent security justification, forced nudity, and threats of rape. Rape and gang rape were perpetrated against nine of these victims, with four suffering repeated rape on multiple occasions. Explicit threats were made by Israeli armed and security forced warning detainees not to report abuse to media or human rights organizations."

Family reunion, elephant style. Three ex-orphans came home to our Voi stockades in January, each with a wild-born calf (or two!) alongside her. Edie. Mweya. Arruba. All rescued from Tsavo years ago, all now mothers, raising families of their own in the wild. But like kids who've flown the nest, they're still popping round to raid the fridge and sneak in some childcare. Our elephant family tree has plenty of branches these days. Did you know about this 1938 Jazz concert that changed Black and Jewish history? In January 1938, Jewish clarinetist Benny Goodman performed at Carnegie Hall. The performance was the most significant jazz concert in history as it was one of the first public concerts to feature a racially integrated cast. Benny Goodman was the first swing orchestra leader to hire black musicians, such as Teddy Wilson, and Lionel Hampton.

If you're wondering how the recently resigned #NACC Commissioner, Paul Brereton, spent his time in his $800,000 p.a job, at least some of it was dedicated to writing to the Inspector General about some individual called, Ronni Salt's, twitter activities. After the first #robodebt decision failure, we encouraged people to exercise their democratic right to complain about that decision to the Inspector General of the NACC. Commissioner Brereton tried to head these many hundreds of incoming complaints off at the pass, by writing to the Inspector General and attempting to categorise this factual information dissemination as "spam" (one assumes in an attempt to weaken the validity of incoming complaints) (foi credit and thanks: Kangaroo Court)
