Indeed. The flow of information through journalism is crucial for learning about what's happening in the world. Having a press that is free from government or corporate control is key to that being a reality, and something we should not take for granted.

Our world's information ecosystem is often dominated by conflict and calamity. Yet learning about crisis is also a call for response. In places of immense suffering, the right to education is something which often gets overlooked. Yet education is a fundamental motivational force for stabilization within places the need peace. All children have the right to have a safe place to learn.
Here's my article on @TheHumanFamily about @EduCannotWait that I hope you will take a moment to read:

Today is #WorldPressFreedomDay, and I think that the concept of having a free press is something we can often take for granted. It's true that much of our current landscape is dominated by corporate interests over the interest of truly informing the people, but there are also incredible news outlets who remain independent and dedicated to factual principle of journalism.
If people do not have accurate and important information, it makes it far more difficult to make the choices we need to make to create a better world, and a better life for ourselves.
The independence of journalism and the free press is something I believe should be celebrated, supported, and protected.

@UN @UNESCO When we think historically, we have come along way in having a free press. Yet history can repeat, and the press should become and remain truly independent. #WorldPressFreedomDay

Attacks on journalists are attacks on freedom of expression.
More than ever, we need reliable sources of information and press freedom.

@danyay @dylanbranes @sama I'm a geriatric millennial, but I'm still going to capitalize my sentences. I am also going to use two spaces after a period. Don't get me started on my comma usage. You can pry them from my cold, dead hands!😂

@dylanbranes @UNDP It flows to me from the mountains.
You get it some other way?

Water is a basic human right.
Yet across the 🌍, women still don’t have an equal say in how it's collected and managed, and they consistently bear the highest cost to obtain it.
Here's how we're working to ensure fair water access for all: go.undp.org/SNV

@elonmusk Imagine a world in which every human being has access to the internet. Game changer.

@UNDP It is right that everyone should have access to safe water.

Humanitarians delivered vital support to more than 12 million people in early 2026.
But to help save #87MillionLives, we need more global solidarity - and it must come faster.
From Sudan to Ukraine and Bangladesh, see how aid workers made a difference this week.

@IAmSteveHarvey The most important things in life are those which are present, here now: Peace, happiness, contentment, wisdom, inner-freedom. They are accessible to us all now. As long as we are chasing something, we are also pushing it away.

@Libuse_Carodej since you joined twitter on dec 2022, you've tweeted 195,700 times. assuming you sleep 8 hours a day, that's about 162 times per day. or roughly a new tweet every four mins, every day, for the last four years.
how do you have time to be a writer?
English

Why do people write tweets like this?
Where every sentence gets a new line.
Sometimes a line might have two sentences. Like this one.
But generally speaking, every sentence has a new line, making a tweet look like a long block of text that no one reads.
Worse still, such tweets are often repetitive and winding, hammering on the same point over and over again.
The writing is often very bad.

@UNOCHA @UNReliefChief Money is a tool for expressing value. Our values as members of @TheHumanFamily need to be guided foremost by meeting the needs of the most vulnerable. We need an awakening of compassion.

The #87MillionLives campaign is gaining momentum, but funding still falls short.
The gap is not about resources. It is about global priorities.

The suffering in this world is unimaginable. If you have a safe place to live, it should fill us with gratitude. And gratitude should lead to compassion, that all may have a safe place to call home.
