I'm going to share something embarrassing, but this is true. I have found a good usage of AI (for me, at least).
I'm a big stinky nerd and I have a hard time understanding what people are saying to me. I am an extremely explicit communicator. I usually say exactly what I mean (for better or worse). I get very confused when people imply something, or lean heavily on emotional phrasing, to implicitly communicate.
I have been unironically using AI to explain what people are saying to me. I'll detail the conversation to the best of my ability if it was communicated verbally, if it was online I copy-paste my message and the persons response (or comment). The silly AI slop robot then translates what the person says into explicit communication for me so I understand better.
Basically, the dumb ass slop machine robot is better at understanding humans than me. Sometimes I have zero idea what someone is talking about or trying to convey.

Your post is really well crafted/said - I mean in a good way. When you said you've accomplished everything you ever wanted with malware, that's well said. Like, not that everything that can be accomplished is done — there are still new interesting things to explore and we see them occasionally.
But the truth is there are not so many things released when we compare it with like 5 years back - much less things that remained unexplored and are still interesting.
I think you should just do what you would like to do the most. The key to sharing super cool stuff and new techniques is doing what we love 💙 - Switching to defense is probably not the right shift you'd be happy with.
You already answered yourself with how you ordered the options. So my recommendation is option 2 (kernel mode) and 4 (different platforms). Both are very promising with lots of opportunities.
Whatever you pick next, I am sure it's gonna be fire and we will all love it and benefit/learn from that 🔥 🚀

I want to share something. I don't expect anyone to care. I just want to scream into the void.
I've accomplished everything I've ever wanted to do with malware. There isn't really a malware thingy that's popped up that I haven't seen or done. My malware code repository of stuff I've written dates back to like, 2009. I've released dozens upon dozens of never before seen (at least publicly) malware snippets and ideas.
I'm standing at this weird cross road where I'm standing at the peak and I'm kind of looking around like ???. What do I do now?
Options:
1. Keep finding new stuff for usermode Windows malware
2. Venture outside usermode to kernel mode malware
3. Switch focus, focus on initial access or stager stuff, not final payload
4. Switch focus, focus outside Windows to different platforms
5. Switch to defense, develop ways to detect malware
6. ???
There is always more to learn and do. But, I've been climbing vertically for like, 20 years, and in order to keep climbing I need to find a different path.

Consumer plan pricing? “More usage.” “5/20x more usage.” More than what? They never say. It’d be trivially easy to put “X tokens per month” on that page. They do it for the API. They choose not to for subscriptions. That’s not an oversight. That’s a strategy. Undefined limits = unlimited flexibility to quietly adjust the ceiling downward. And you’d never know because there was never a number to compare against. You can’t accuse someone of moving the goalposts when they never told you where the goalposts were. That’s the whole point.

Anthropic just pulled the oldest trick in SaaS pricing. I pay $200/mo for Claude Max. My limits have been noticeably worse this past week. Now they announce 2x off-peak usage for two weeks. Sounds generous. But here’s what actually happens: limits quietly drop, a temporary 2x makes the reduced limit feel normal, the promo ends, and you’re left at a baseline lower than where you started. You just didn’t notice the downgrade because the 2x absorbed the transition. These AI plans are massively subsidized. The raw compute behind a heavy user costs multiples of the subscription price. Every move like this is the subsidy quietly correcting. Very sneaky, Anthropic.
