Now that we have a tropical system developing in the Gulf, the naming police have returned.
If I say “Gulf of Mexico,” people get mad. If I say “Gulf of America,” a completely different group of people gets mad. Apparently, even naming a body of water has become a political emergency.
So, just like I’ve been doing for nearly a year, I’m calling it, "the Gulf".
I promise you, the storm does not care what you call it, and neither do the people watching for potentially dangerous weather.
But if everyone keeps arguing about it, I’m officially renaming it the Gulf of Max Velocity.
