@TPatbat all of the buddhist women in my family have been domestically abused and their only response is “i hope to be something better in the next life”

@bhangbhangducx just riffing, but it seems incongruous that the brit vitriol spewed at immigrants at the time that led to their total implosion was towards poles and eastern europeans than the current panic towards non-white refugees

none of this narrative of British decline is true. Britain was extremely prosperous and a high end industrial titan until they decided to eviscerate their economy in 2015 for no reason.
Mr Demos of Pnyx@gem_ste

I would also add that up to the 70's, postwar British R&D masked the loss with the country at the forefront of the jet, computer and nuclear age. British R&D was notable for being "the first" in many R&D breakthroughs but unable to make a long-term commercial success of them.

@JuicedAthlete @KirstiMiller30 unfair, that there COULD be a super athlete who hypothetically has an altered metabolism or something that COULD be measured, but also COULD have the reverse effect. but, the chess federation banning trans women participation marks this entirely as a moral panic

@JuicedAthlete @KirstiMiller30 it’s another moral panic by which mediocre players can shame their opponents for media attention, imagine if suddenly every player who’s ever had some sort of gene therapy or stem cell treatment for cancer or something were to be banned entirely out of the fear that it COULD be

The fact that transgender women who go through typically male puberty will tend to have larger bones than non-transgender women may actually be a disadvantage. Having larger bones without corresponding levels of testosterone and muscle mass would mean that a runner has a bigger body to propel with less power to propel it. Similarly, in a sport where athletes compete in different weight classes (e.g. weight lifting), the fact that a transgender woman has bigger bones may be a disadvantage because her ratio of muscle-to-bone will be much lower than the ratio for other women in her weight class who have smaller bones. Even if it could be demonstrated that larger bones or lungs can slightly enhance the athletic performance of transgender women even after they lower their level of testosterone, that finding would have to be placed in context. Larger lungs and hearts generally correlate to a person’s size, so there are significant intra-sex variations of heart and lung size even among women who are not transgender. There are also myriad genetic variations among athletes that can enhance athletic performance. In the academic literature these are referred to as “performance enhancing polymorphisms” or “PEPs.” A PEP is a variation in the DNA sequence that is associated with improved athletic performance. For example, variations in mitrochondrial DNA have been associated with greater endurance capacity and greater mitochondrial density in muscles. Other PEPs are associated with blood flow or muscle structure. See Ostrander EA, et al. Genetics of athletic performance. Annu Rev Genomics Hum Genet 2009; 10:407-429. These variations have proven to have a significant impact on athletic ability, unlike bone or lung size in transgender women. After a transgender woman lowers her level of testosterone, there is no inherent reason why her physiological characteristics related to athletic performance should be treated differently from the physiological characteristics of a non-transgender woman. transresearch.org.au/post/trans-wom…

Research is showing trans girls are 19% kg for kg weaker than c_s girls and and they have less leg strength and lower endurance levels than c_s girls. Alvares & colleagues suggests that trans women can produce less force per gram of muscle than both c_sgender women & c_sgender men and combined with VO2 peak/FFM findings, possible cellular dysfunction in the muscle of trans women [Alvares et al., 2022]. An INTERNATIONAL LEVEL trans woman CYCLIST in this study demonstrated an ~15% LOSS of aerobic capacity with 3 months of GAHT & a 19-33% & 15-30% LOSS of lower and upper body strength respectively with 18 months of GAHT. That’s massive… repository.lboro.ac.uk/articles/thesi… x.com/kirstimiller30…

@JuicedAthlete @KirstiMiller30 this seems more dependent on the method of training than testosterone levels, not to mention hereditary traits, aging, or whatever other environmental factors occur within a decade

@KirstiMiller30 Curious doc, the 10 years of advanced training as a male in competitive endurance sports, how much performance advantage is retained training at elevated testosterone levels compared to their future female competitors when this male transitions and undergoes a few years of HRT?

@thereisnobeth Trans men go through what every afab person goes through. None of us love our periods, or our breasts, or the unwanted attention from men old enough to be our dads. We all want to escape womanhood, but medicating half the population with testosterone and surgeries isn't an option

I don't want to be mean but God its so clear that most cis people have no idea what it's like to grow up trans. almost every trans woman I know was bullied and most of us were sexually harassed prior to transition because we failed to "be a man"
'-'@lappwvj

@p1nkempress_ @ussuriii people of the male sex? most trans women dont even begin identifying as trans until after they hit puberty which means they werent instantly bullied or sexually harassed for simply existing, this is not to say trans women also dont have it really hard obviously but it_

@transraven332 @bhangbhangducx i thought a really big part of why unmanned drones were so effective is that they could saturate an extremely wide area and so spread out air defenses. i don’t think that logic works with attacking a small island

it was defended by 67,000 IJA troops. Without precision fires, WWII-era defenses were not able to be efficiently targeted and destroyed. Once the island is cleared, FPV drones from the coast will not have range to reach the island.
Matt Bracken@Matt_Bracken48

These people are high on crack. Qeshm Island is bigger than Okinawa, which took 3 months, 184,000 troops, and 12,500 KIA to take. And Queshm is in fire control range of countless Iranian missiles and drones dug into cliffs and caves for hundreds of miles back from Queshm on a 270* arc.
