@fobita @patrickoyulu I still vividly remember the last time I boarded Mon yela around 1997 from Kampala to Kitgum. That day, the guy overloaded and we almost got an accident coz of poor balance and the guy played only Lucky Dube’s songs upto Kitgum. But all in all, they were a good bus company.

In the early 90s we had Steyr buses plying the Kitgum-Gulu-Kampala routes. The bus type was shipped (over 50 units) in a loan scheme guaranteed by Cooperative bank (farmers' bank) - its intended failure later led to the liquidation of the bank. It was a fresh breath of air from the Leylands that dominated the buses space. Many companies received pieces...1 or 2. We had Mon Yela Got Mola and COVMO (Charles Otti Motorvehicles Company) shipping us around from the north to Kampala.

Each of these has a capacity of 50,000 ltrs. The current water vessels at full capacity each transport 22 tankers, translating into 1.1 million litres in a single voyage. With the two vessels, that's a total of 2.2 million ltrs. A journey from Kisumu to Port Bell is 18 hours.

@CultonScovia Masaka should just be given its own country status, coz I mean, what kind of collective resistance is this?

Masaka is such an annoying city. If you want to withdraw money from an MTN number, you turn into a nuisance, loitering around the city as kiosk/shop attendants tell you they don’t offer MTN services. Some even take it personally and ask why you transact with MTN. I may not know the exact reason, but the Buganda influence is not negligible. It’s not that Buganda asked the people of Masaka not to use MTN, but its partnership with a rival company seems to have been taken personally by the bannaMasaka. Now the day Airtel fumbles that partnership, they will understand why a goat can’t chew coffee.

A bus belonging to Gulu Secondary School carrying students to Jinja for a tour has been involved in a road crash @Kigumba at about @544am. According to reports, the crash occurred when the bus driver attempted to overtake another vehicle & collided head-on with a Fuso truck traveling in the opposite direction. The bus conductor died on the spot, while @17 students sustained injuries. Of these, @2 were critically injured, while @15 sustained minor injuries. The injured students are currently admitted @Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment. #AvoidCarelessOvertaking
