@geweyke @leonidragozin It may not have been 3 days exactly, but its pretty clear that they wanted to rapidly seize the city with airborne troops backed up with light armour before Ukraine's defences were mobilised. The goal was to kill/capture Zelensky and force a Ukrainian surrender.

It’s like “Kyiv in three days” trope. Act 1: Claim that the Russians have a specific, impossible-to-achieve target. Act 2: Claim they failed to achieve this target.
Institute for the Study of War@TheStudyofWar

NEW: A senior Ukrainian official reported that the Russian military intends to seize half of Ukraine by the end of 2026. Russian forces are highly unlikely to be able to make such large advances in such a narrow time frame, given Russia’s current offensive capabilities and assuming that the flow of Western aid to Ukraine continues. Key Points ⬇️ The Russian military command’s purported objectives for 2026 extend far beyond Russia’s formal territorial demands and aim to seize a significant part of central Ukraine and most of southern and eastern Ukraine. Russia’s purported military campaign plans for 2025 and 2026 are consistent with long-standing Russian territorial objectives and recent statements by pro-Kremlin voices in the information space. The Russian military is likely unable to achieve its purported 2026 objectives, given the significant manpower and materiel losses Russian forces have sustained over the last three years of war and the Russian forces’ inability to achieve operational maneuver on the battlefield. Putin’s theory of victory depends on the Western alliance backing Ukraine abandoning Ukraine as a necessary condition to bring about this scale of advance. Russia is very unlikely to seize half of Ukraine if the international coalition continues supporting Ukraine.

@cb534005365473 @BugbearBrand @leonidragozin It was meant to be a decapitation strike. A rapid advance into Kyiv with a relatively small and lightly-armoured force before the Ukrainian defences were fully mobilised. They would kill/capture Zelensky and his cabinet and thereby force a Ukrainian surrender.

@ricardus_13 @Alonso_GD The Allied bombing tied down most of the Luftwaffe in the West and Mediterranean, thereby easing pressure on the Eastern Front. The vast majority of German aircraft losses in WW2 were inflicted by the WAllies.

@Alonso_GD And terror bombing did not win WW2, Soviet ground offensive did, even in Japan! This attempt by the West to take credit by claiming that threats to exterminate all the civilians is more psychopathic nonsense.

@BixRictus @Alonso_GD @piersmorgan The Nazis didn't have the capability to kill Jews in Argentina, America or India and they never would have. Heck, they couldn't even get to the ME to kill the Jews there. Does that mean that Hitler didn't have genocidal intent.

@Alonso_GD @piersmorgan Isn’t genocide meaningless if decoupled from capability? Even for a moment assuming Morgan’s genocidal intent, in what imaginary universe could a militia without a tank or airforce kill everyone in Israel, let alone “all Jews”? In America? In Argentina? In India?

@brokenPrime @PhillipsPOBrien The US also made a huge contribution to the air war against Germany (bombing German cities and grinding down the Luftwaffe at the same time).

@PhillipsPOBrien Is this even true? WW1 we came late and turned the tide. Is that "more than anyone" or just a shift in balance. WW2 were had a lot of allies. We were less than half of dday beaches. In Asia, sure, that was us. But the whole war?

To be fair, Trump has probably never said anything in his life that would piss off Putin more than this.

@arbiter3z @DrunkAustrian @arisroussinos No, Russia uses it to cultivate a victim hood complex to justify the criminal policies of the Kremlin today. And they completely ignore Lend-Lease and contribution that the Western Allies made (esp. at sea and in the air, inflicting most losses on Kriegsmarine + Luftwaffe)

@DrunkAustrian @arisroussinos Russia celebrates it as sacrifice and victory. The West as a method for cultural humiliation of Europe and Germany in particular. Big difference

@K0sher_C0ckney @fredforthemets So while she hasn't been as active on this issue in recent months as we might have liked, her actions leave us in no doubt as to where she stands: in absolute solidarity with her people and country in its fight against barbarism and terrorism.
